Default Engine rattle...please help!

Two very wierd things happen when I start up the anytime of the day...First is when I turn the key the car feels like its just not gonna turn on/over...kinda like it wants to die on the turn on!?! Second, I will be in neutral and just give the car a little gas and you can hear a rattling sound as it revs, but "seems" to be only in the beginning of the rev. Does anyone know what this could be? It feels like a slight to moderate loss of power down low. Highway speed seems to be ok. any help would be greatly appreciated!

i kinda have the rattling problem, but i dont think mine is much of an engine rattle, mines more of an exhaust rattle, it's really annoying sometimes. at 2000 rpm and 3600 rpm it juss has this raspy retarded rattling sound. sigh =(

So you think I should replace my clutch?? what is a good replacement? Could that also explain the slight/moderate power loss down low? thanx

LOL, but I 've never had that pedal prob! So do you think this could explain the slight power loss though??

you should probally take it to a dealership. if your still under warrenty. theres no point dumpin your money on a new set of clutch and flywheel if thats not the problem. because you will still be stuck with your problem.

This has been posted before. The vq35 has oil pressure driven chain tensioners. It takes a second for oil pressure to reach the tensioners and tighten the chains. The sound is the chains hitting the timing cover. It happens usually when the car sits for more than a day. My 2001 Maxima did it and my 03.5 G35 did it too.

It happens every time I start the engine, regardless of stationary time. I guess I will take it to the dealership and see what they say...but they ALWAYS treat people like they are crazy or imagining things...

You may have a bad tensioner.
