Pre-silencer remove price?
I went to get the pre-silencer/resonator (however you spell it) removed today, and was quoted $100 and $125.. but I see people have gotten it done much cheaper... how much did you all pay, so I know whos giving me a good deal? Personally I wouldn't think more than 50.. it's cutting a part off, putting in a pipe which is no more than 10 bucks, if that, and welding it, which takes 10-15mins.

You shouldn't pay more then $40. $100, what are they replacing it w/ gold. The labor is nothing, the pipe to replace shouldn't cost more then $2. Go somewhere else, don't settle for anything more then $40, some are as low as $10.

120 bucks? No Way....
Just get the yellow book and find the local Meineke(maybe wrong spell) they are the national chain muffler store like Jiffy Lube. I got my resonator removed from there for 27.50. It was removed and the pipe cutted accordingly has been welded. Just find any decent muffler shop and they would do it for less then $40 I guess.

I paid 40
Welded. I asked about welding some flanges on and bolting it, but they didn't seem interested in doing their job...I wish I could find a decent place to get my car worked on.
Did you guys get the pipe bolted on, or welded?

So what exaclty does removing the pre-silencer do? Sound clips anyone?
Doesn't "do" much, but some have claimed hp gain. The pre-silencer is a resonater that lowers the pitch of the exhaust sound. Some say it is there to properly "tune" the exhaust. It is a straight through design so I can't see how it would be much of a restriction to exhaust flow.
