Default power steering stop working... maybe the pump... need help and info

hi guys,

my power steering fluid was overflowing last January at winton trackday... and 2 weeks ago, after few drift practice, my powersteering sometimes working and sometime is not.... and kept getting worse...

and now its not working at all when im stationery... i had to hold the rev above 2000rpm in order to make it work...

also i can sometime hear the 'whine' noise under the bonnet when i hold the steering wheel full lock.

i drained the fluid and changed it with the fresh fluid... still doesnt make much different (its kinda work only the very fisrt time i started the car in the cold morning)

i didnt find any metal piece from the fluid that i drained which indicates my steering rack is still fine...

i also check the belt tension, and its still fine and doesnt show any slippage... the pully bolts also intact...

so now i suspect that the power steering pump is the culprit... its loosing pressure or something like that... coz the fact that i need to rev it up in order to make it work...

and normally... when stationery, i notice the idle rev goes up abit when i turn the steering wheels... but now, it doesnt do anything... .rev stays the same...

can someone give me abit more info on how our powersteering works? coz i read somewhere that we have variable/electronically assist power steering.... so if thats the case, it either the pump, or just the electronic unit is disconnected...

any opinion are welcomed and would be much appreciated...

regards,
Silas

i've read them and and follow the steps... the pressure is 1,420psi (9.7Mpa) which is still within the manufature spec...

and the belt tension also not a problem...

i inspected the relief valve assembly and no leaks there...

How did you arrive at 1400 PSI ???? Did you gauge it ? ---If so, did you tee into it or did you deadhead it ?

Squealing at lock is generally normal, You are maxing pressure and your check Valve is working its *** off relieving the pressure.

There are valves in your R@P that can go bad, Did you thourghly flush the system ??? That means----from pump through R@P and dump at LP return

im willing to bet you blew your pump. i blew mine and replaced it recently. apparently with these pumps holding the steering at full lock for over five seconds can shear a shaft in the pump somehow and cause it to fail. I just replaced the pump and flushed the system out a couple times to do my best to remove any small small small metal pieces in it. Its been working great for over a month now, no problems.
