Default royal purple...power loss

Hey, I also posted this on my350z and am trying to get some good responses because im stumped on this. This weekend i changed my oil to royal purple 5w-30 and ever since then i have seen some power loss. i have also been smelling what seems to smell like a burning oil smell from the car, sometimes it faint.. after a quick fly through some gears it is a more pronounced smell. i also changed the oil filter and changed the crush washer. Has anybody experenced something like this before when they have changed there oil or do you think i have got a bigger problem then i might expect. there were only 5 quarts of oil put in and by the dipstick it seems to read between low and high... 2000rpms is 60psi.. any ideas would be greatly appreciated! thank you.

Did you see this in your exhaust fumes or on an actual measurement, such as a dynometer?

More than likely, it's just in your head.

Welcome to the forum. Changing motor oil, any motor oil, does not cause the symptoms that you described. Impossible.

i didnt think so either but it happened literally right after i changed the oil.. and the burning oil smell still continues 5 days later. my friend changed his oil the same day to royal purple and have any burning oil smell or problems(wrx). the car feels like the ac is running now all the time or i have an extra person in it all the time and its a noticable loss.

All in your head. The car probably feels much smoother, therefore giving the illusion of less low end torque. For the record I use rp 10w-30 in my revup with great results.

it's all in your head. I have been running RP from day one, it is alot smoother and I noticed that on my other cars when i changed over, it's a bit quieter too, giving the subtle illusion of a loss of power. Or that you're going deaf... You're fine man. As far as the smell, you may have dripped some oil accidently onto your manifold or headers and now it's burning off.

I agree that its all in the head. Never heard of a power loss from an oil change and quite the opposite with RP, which is suppose to gain some.

Burning oil smell can come from a small amount of oil that spilled on the motor or any place that is hot, such as the exhaust.

Switched over to RP 5w30 two days ago, Def didn't notice anything like this and the car feels so much smoother like the motor is taking a breather all the time (which i quickly put it back in the game with my right foot to the floor making those 6 pistons play the tune i want!)

Soon switching to RP brake, Clutch, everything!

I have been RP for a couple of years in my Z and never had any problems that you mentioned. However, if you race your Z and run RP and would be cautious. My motor was completely NA and it spun a bearing killing my motor with only 60,000 miles. I always changed my oil at 2,000 mile intervals with RP 10-40. Now I am not saying RP killed my motor because I did have two years worth of doing road racing and high speed track events so that was the major factor. I do think RP didn't protect my engine as well as say AMSOIL racing oil because other engines with more racing miles on it that ran AMSOIL had alot less wear. I believe RP does add HP but sacrifices some protection in extreme conditions. If you do road race your Z and run RP be cautious...check you bearings if you can.
