Default question about lower mpg after added mods

added 5/16'' spacer and pop charger and i reset the ECU following the directions. now, my mpg has dropped to ~24mpg. I used to be able to get ~27mpg on long trips and sometimes even better. should the spacer drop the mpg? Thanks for any help.

gas mileage is the result of a blended calculation that takes into account many factors, including how heavy of a foot you have. it is very common with new mods to try them out (i.e., accelerate hard), which reduces your gas mileage. the only way to truly tell is to stick it on the freeway in cruise control and see what number you get, before and after.

also, in my opinion, additional horsepower generally comes at the price of less economical fuel consumption.

Well consider that I have intake and spacer like you do...then add in headers, high flow cats and exhaust....i get 15mpg. On long trips i might see 17's. And I drive slower than your grandma. So you're well on your way!!!

With my mods, and living in-town, I still see 18, and 24 on the highway.

Unless you have a before and after dyno with air/fuel ratios you can't prove it's your mods.

Most mods lean you out a little bit, but every car and ECU is different. I've seen cars go pig rich just by adding test pipes.

Most likely it's your driving habits.

If a few MPG is a deal breaker for you, I suggest you get a car that is built for fuel economy and do not mod it.

it isn't a deal breaker...i just thought i had seen somewhere that people had no change in their mpg with those mods. i am totally fine w/ a decrease in mpg w/ increased power, just want to make sure i didn't do something wrong, that is all. and the drop in mpg was noted from prior mpg w/ cruise set at 70 for 500miles w/o mods and a recent couple of trips for 400 miles at 70 w/ mods. like i said, just making sure this is normal.
