If you had an o2 cylinder in your car, with a boost button to inject 'pure' oxygen into the intake at a controllable level (vaguely similar to a nitrous system), how long a boost would be sustainable. If it would work at all, that is.
well, they tried this before then the went to nitrous because it was more stable, and when nitrous hits the intake it cools down the air as well, so its a win-win. Oxygen is way more explosive as well, but it is fairly stable until it sheds the nitrogen in it.

If you sprayed the inside, you would reduce the speed and volume of air that could get through.

depending on the thickness of the coating though, this could be negligible.....but anyway, the point that teh215 brought up is a good one....the expansion and contraction thing.....if the insulation looses its flexibility after curing, that could be a problem

Ok, yes i do know what i'm talking about. No need to get upset. When i originally read your post, my intial thought of a "heat shield" was the one which surrounds the filter element. Such as a setup on a honda or ford. Unfortunetly, this doesn't apply to the Z/injen setup. Sorry. If i was as smart as you, i would have said..." silly me, the Z/injen setup is different from a typical CAI setup in that the plumbing travels under the bumper. Boy, i'm glad i didn't type that."

Injen is a great company, but not perfect. Their first intake design didn't have the inline filter that it now comes with.
Exactly. Please tell me when a company is perfect? Why do you assume that.."their testing and information can't be disregarded" means the company is perfect!!?? All i meant was that they have the time to test what works and doesn't work. Then try to apply the knowledge they gained and place it within the market.

how? you just said above that the original filter wasn't an inline one. So they soon changed it. I wonder if their "TESTING" found that an inline one was better????? hmmmmmmmmmmmm.....

Well, i guess everyone should sell the injen intake that has an inline filter because testing done by injen isn't perfect. And your all naive and ignorant for buying it.

I don't have an CAI thank you very much. And yes everything i do to my Z is set correctly. See my Sig. I don't have mods that are..."lets change the emblem".

Guy, this website is for information purposes. People come up with great ideas and stupid ideas. To slam a person who you think doesn't know what the hell they are talking about can't possibly help the conversation.

I've been here since may of '02. I was one of the very first pre-order cars. I feel that with all the time i've spent here, my knowlegde about Z related products is well rounded.

if you do spray on the inside wouldn't it crack when the pipe gets hot on the outside? (ie metal expand while the insulator don't) If it does crack, would the fragments go right into your engine?

Reading this thread, reminds me of another post of this guy wrapping insulator around his pipe, which was pretty funny.

As somebody who's been around here since waaaaay back in '02, you should at least know what the Injen intake looks like before you talk about it. Maybe you should even BUY it before you profess to be an expert on Injen's design. You came into this thread, quoted me first, and made an arrogant statement about how foolish we were to be discussing this. I retorted. Thats all. I'm not angry at you, i'm laughing at you. This site is indeed for information, and your lack of knowledge, combined with a desire to spread it, could end up with some newby bolting his heat shield to his filter. Just because i've been eating food for years, doesn't make me a nutritional expert. And just because you own a Z, doesn't make you a mechanic.
