ecu
is there any info on when ecu units will be avialable for the 350z cars nismo isnt going to offer them for us in states here.can any one help or has any info on this matter.
I work in the parts dept at preston ford nissan I was at the trade show I have the list on exactly what nismo parts are going to be avaliable and ecu are not on the list,I sure wish they were
keng420 is correct. NISMO ecu will not be available in the states. This information was provided by NISMO at the recent SEMA show. NISMO ecu will only be made for the Japaneese market where 98 octane pump gas is available
The reason is that the an ecu will only provide minimal gains on the pump gas we can get in the states.
This info is direct from NISMO here is the quote: "As for an ECU, there is nothing on the immediate horizon. They are looking at bringing one; however, on our 91 octane gas the gains will probably be minimal. He said the Japan market can take advantage of ECU retuning, because they have 98 octane gas readily available. He also stated that the current tuning is pretty much optimized already. Since there has been a lot of discussion on requiring a new ECU to take advantage of modifications, he specifically said that was untrue. He said that someone on my350z.com has been putting that out, and that they are dead wrong. He said that Honda's computers use a fixed air/fuel map, but with the Mass Airflow Sensor type system, the computer takes full advantage of any increased airflow.
Bottom line: The stock computer does not cut power after performance modifications are made. "

US NISMO Catalog:

High Pressure Clutch Cover with Copper Mix Disc
Lightweight Flywheel

4 Pinion Limited Slip Differential
Aero Kit - Front and Rear Spoilers, Side Sills
NISMO LM GT-4 wheels
According NISMO at sema the answer is NO ECU in the states. You can be hopeful but most likely it will never happen since the costs of production out weigh the minimal performance benefits obtaind by the ecu.
It makes sense that a company would not want to invest dollars on a product that is all ready optimized and can only hope for minimal gains. The porduct wouldn't sell.

NISMO would be foolish to not release an ECM in the states.....but i guess they can afford to be foolish since they're now Nissan's stepchild.......there should be plenty of room for gains, since the stock ECM is engineered to work in all climates..........no matter, someone will make an ECM.....either a replacement, or a piggyback......and we will all gladly throw our cash at them
It's kinda funny. Japan is a country that is gas starved whereas we at least have oil reserves, but they get 98 octane gas and the highest we get is 91 octane. I have seen 93 octane in some places, but I would love to have 98 octane fuel.
Fuel consumption of average registered car/SUV/etc -
Japan - 48mpg
Europe - 42mpg
USA - 22mpg
Engine capacity of average registered car/SUV/etc -
Japan - 1470cc
Europe - 1720cc
USA - 3320cc
95/98 Octane fuel can also be burnt with more efficiency (less $, pollution, etc), that is why it is the prefered fuel in Europe & Japan.
But who cares about efficiency?
Note: The above figures are completely wrong! Can anyone think of any better?

Today I saw with my own eyes a 350Z having a Technosquare mapping flashed into its ECU with a laptop and ODBII connecter. However, I cannot give out anymore info. But I will keep you guys posted when I get more information.
This is all the info I have as of now. The tech's english wasn't too good so this is what I understood...
1. I saw a 350Z on a dyno with a laptop plugged into the ECU. He said that each Z can be custom tuned with a simple flash of the ECU, no chip/piggyback computer is needed.
2. The Air/fuel map is programmed with HEX code.
3. Hard part is extracting the baseline mapping off the ECU and deciphering the codes.
4. 8hp extracted from a US stock 350z.
5. HP is lower then stock on high RPM's (thats what they were trying to fix when I was there watching)
6. The Technosquare tech claims that they have been doing a lot of R&D for Nissan motorsports, specifically their ECU.
Here is their English site if you want to check it out.
