Default Oil pressure

Ok everytime I get my oil changed, my oil pressure goes all the way to and past 120 on the gauge when I rev it, as it starts to get closer to my oil change 4k ish miles it starts to not go as high and flutter whats up with this, and is this bad. I run that q horsepower stuff 10w30, but it also did it with royal purple 10w30 and 5w30 both are synthetic oils and all have used a k&n oil filter. So wtf is up.

Oil breaks down over time, which is why we do oil changes. It starts to lose its viscosity, therefore it would cause the lower oil pressure.

Yeah.... but over 120 on the gauge is not normal. Head to the dealer if it's under warranty. If it's not then get a more accurate gauge and monitr that oil pressure to see what's up.

If I'm not mistaken you may have too much oil in the car. This was talked about a long time ago.Check your oil level.

sounds like a bad gauge...we've seen a few...and the first one wasted a few hours of our time.

Sounds like a lot of overreacting in this thread.

When your car is fully warmed up, if your oil pressure is about 15psi-30psi that's good.

Oil pressure very typically goes over 120psi when the car is cold at high RPMs.

Check out the top 100 questions thread, I made a nice post about oil pressure

+1 ... when oil breaks down its viscosity drops and oil pressure drops as well. So it's natural, when you get an oil change, to see higher oil pressure with fresh oil

possible, but it doesn't sound like that's the case here

What if the pressure gauge is almost at 0 psi at idle and then just barely climbs up when on the gas? Yes its been about 7k miles since my last oil change....full synthetic.

Now that sounds like a possible bad gauge.

Do you ever get the oil light coming on?

better check your oil level, and make sure your engine's not bone dry out of oil if yours is an 06

OK yeah good point, I didn't see the "06" in his sig.

06MagneticZ -- Definitely get an oil change and see what happens. Make sure to measure the amount of oil that comes out of the car
