Default Noisy LSD

Hey guys I got a used Nismo LSD installed in my car and now it makes an odd noise. The diff seems to be set very aggressive and while I experience a little wheel skip on tight corners the bigger problem is that it also makes this loud creeking noise. As if my Z were a 100 year old rocking chair. Do you guys think the guy that installed my diff didn't measure right and the noise is the result of the diff sort of binding up? Please help, I am worried to drive the car as it is.

I think thats pretty normal. Mine makes odd noises and wheel skips at 60% lockup(which is the lowest setting. It should make the most commotion in tight radius low speed turns like parking lot maneuvers (making for some embarrassing exits...). Try some Royal Purple or Redline fluid, it should help for a while.

I am using Motul 90 right now and heard good things about it. Do you recommend adding a slip additive? If so any advice?
Thanks

Actually GM of all places have a pretty good friction agent that I've used.

I just got mine installed too. When its very cold and I take a slow turn, it pops and groans extremely loud. Sounds like someone is hitting my axle with a mallet.

The noise you are hearing is pretty much the metal plates. Because your LSD is a clutch type, you will hear all types of clunking noises. Just the nature of the beast, however if you use a different diff oil (I believe Redline) it will lower the noise, but not completely.

Add some friction additive, that lowered my noise level quite a bit. If it's still squeeking like a rocking chair, take it to a shop that deals with LSD's and ask about the noise there, they'll tell you if it's normal or not. Mine doesnt squeek, occasional pops and grinds and tire chirps though are the norm.

Unfortunately, the Nismo diff is one of the noisiest around. I usually dont suggest them at all, unless its for track only use. The Carbonetics carbon LSD is nearly silent, and a better choice for a street car.

Motul 90PA is about as good as it gets. You might try experimenting with some different friction modifiers. Let us know how it goes.

The motul 90 did wonders for me. I went and drove the shi_ outta my car. And then did some massive toyko drift doughnuts. was a whole new car with hardly any lockup on turns and now no more noise.

if you dont mind spending a bit more money for fluid. try the cusco differential oil. i had motul 90 and it was good, the cusco oil is a couple nothces better as far as reducing noice and pops.
