Default Cusco RS installed got a hard noise when I turn help please!!!

Hi guys,

I just installed a cusco RS diff on my car and when I turn at low speed there is hard sounds coming from the differential like just one toc! or toc! toc! toc! at the same time the car gives big hits... I need your help to find the problem. Maybe the installers did not put the good differential fluid??? If it is the problem what fluid should be the best to put in the diff???

Maybe the LSD is broken, I don't know but I hate the feeling for the moment.

It do this only when I turn the steering to 60 degrees or more. It doesn't do it at very low speed or when I hold the clutch while turning.

help me please

Are you sure that it is normal to feel a really hard knock when I turn at low speed or sometimes it makes the same sound but many times in a row (toc toc toc toc toc--very fast). If it is normal what is your trick to drive your car without it looks like a garbage???

+1, I have the Nismo and its pretty loud. Mine did quiet down alittle after the first break in period. I run amsoil and mine is pretty quiet now, after a few thousand miles.

what configuration did you set your cusco type-rs lsd to?

1.5way, 2way? how much locking %? i think the amount of harshness depends on what your settings are. gentler settings usually are quieter imo

Sorry brah, that's the way clutch type LSDs work. Sucks the seller didn't warn you. I always thought the product details should reference the noise.

What kind of fluid is in there right now? Some ppl run Amsoil, Motul, or Redline which in their opinion seems to quiet down the diff siginificantly.

I should be dropping my Cusco RS diff in next week (just configured it last night). It is set as a 1.5way 100% lock. I'll be running Motul PA90 (thats the one with the friction modifier). I'll let you know if i get the type of noises you get.

Please keep in mind that clutch based LSD's give off noise but the amount of noise in some cases can be altered with fluid choice, LSD choice and break-in procedure. (It was broken in right?)

On a side note. I installed a ATS Carbon 2-way LSD into my buddy's G35 last night. During break in (figure 8's) there was very little noise, and during driving it was completely silent. You may want to consider this diff if noises bother you that much.

Personally, i wouldn't worry about noise. Call it a badge of honor!

Redline didn't last long with my Nismo.

I have never heard a peep out of my solid axle clutch type LSD's. I think this may be unique to an independent rear setup.

I have heard some that are more quiet than others, but most have continued to make a slight noise after break in, and depending on the maker even after break in they continue to make a noticiable amount of noise. The loudest I've heard unfortunately was the Cusco. This was on a STI, and months after the break in it still made a very loud clunking noise when it was engaged. I'm not sure if they are setting sensitive as for as the noise goes but I would suggest trying a softer setting. Due to the design nature of the smaller swell may yield a lower noise.
