Default My Z is sick...

Got an 06 Track.

Symptoms:
Rev limit of 2000 RPM
Service Engine Soon Light/VDC/TCS on (Steady)
Sputtering
Idling at 2,200 (up and down)

Mods:
Nismo CAI
Heavy Foot

What do i think the problem is?
Either i have some bad gas in my tank, or my MAF is dirty.

I filled up the day before with shell optimax. I washed the Z today at 1200.l Went for a fun little drive and ended up getting the cut out at 6,000 rpm. Stopped and put in some (italian product to take the water out of the gas tank) at the gas station.

I'm thinking i should just drain it.

Q#1
What do you use to clean your MAF?
Q#2
Is there a drain bolt on the Z's gas tank?

Thanks in advance.

I bucket washed the car with two 3 gallon buckets of water, i think it's pretty unlikely - But i suppose it's possible.

If you were me, what would you do?

If i were you, i would drain the tank and refill. Check the MAF for build up or moisture. It's hard to diagnose, but it would take a lot of water to make it up a Nismo CAI. I've sprade my filter on my CAI with the pressure washer through the grill while washing the car with no affect. Hydrolock sounds unlikely unless you've been driving through puddles/small lakes

Probably bad gas partner, or lets hope so.

Take the car and have the codes scanned-report back.

I don't believe that it is the MAF or air filter. Find out what codes you're getting and go from there.

If Cleaning the MAF sensor will give you peace of mind, it's quite simple to do. Remove the harness, unscrew the two small screws holding it to the intake tube. When cleaning take car to only hold it by the plastic housing, and do not touch the plates or any of the wires.

Buy a specific MAF CLEANER (CRC makes a good MAF cleaner, although I'm not sure if it's available in Europe), or mild electronic parts cleaner. Spray short bursts on the inside and out of the sensor, taking care not to make any contact with the wires between the plates. Let the solvent air dry off of the sensor before reinstalling.

As others have said however, I don't believe the problem is your MAF.

It's not hydrolock. If his car was suffering from hydrolock it would not run at all. Plus the nismo cai has a bypass valve to avoid hydrolock.

I don't know what the problem is but I think you should take it to the dealer. It's an 06. Don't you have a warranty?

Thanks for all the help gentlemen. As it turns out, what i put in the tank after all this trouble started was just fuel injector cleaner. I'll throw some "Heat" in the tank and if that doesn't work, then i'll get some of that CRC for the MAF sensor. I hope they sell it on base...

I'll report back and let you guys know how I get on.

Oh, and I'm trying to avoid taking it to the dealer, with the intake and all... i don't want them to try and blame the problem on me, or even worse, try and void my warranty.

car is in limp mode - need to get the code to figure out why. go to autozone and have them read it for you. or find a friend with cipher.

sounds like the throttle body either got unpluged or never relearned its self. I would try un-plugging the throttle body and leaving it unpluged for a while then relearn it. All you have to do is take leave your foot off the gas and turn the key to on for 10 sec and off for 3 do that 3 or 4 times and it should relearn the throttle body. That may not be it but I know they can cause those same symptoms.

The NISMO CAI does NOT take only 20 minutes to swap out. I don't know of any CAI that takes only 20 minutes to swap out since you have to jack the car up, remove a wheel and rip open the bottom part of the car including the fenderwell for starters.

The error code was P2101....something to do with the throttle parameters..etc. I just cleared the code with the diagnostic tool and everything seems to be fine now. Not sure what the problem was in the first place... probably PFM.

I just hope it doesn't happen again.

your car should still be under warranty, take it to the dealer and let them worry about it.

Not sure if you guys have a camshaft Position Sensor... But if you do you might want to check that out... Usually if the sensor is ruined it will idle very high and usually will not let you pass around 4,000rpms...
