Stay With Motul?
Ok so I got my new greddy twinned built motor Z and the previous owner has only run Motul 15W50. The car was in Maryland before and is now in Austin Texas.Maryland goes through 4 seasons and texas about 2( hot and not so damn hot)lol so would you recommend that I stick with motul? and stay with the same weight or would I be okay to change to a more readily available motor oil...the car has sat in the garage since last sunday and I havnt driven it since...decided to check the oil and its low...I really want to change it to royal purple or some other full synthetic so I can drive it this weekend.
So what would you recommend?
TIA
Tom

Just to clear up some possible confusion, let me offer two bits of information:
First, the Motul 15W-50 is a full synthetic oil. You can read more about it's base stock in that link posted above, if you go and check out the post on Group5 Ester base stocks.
Second, you have a built motor and there is very little that the comparisons in that link can tell you. Those are all for stock blocks. Your block will have much different clearances and materials in it than a factory VQ engine. In other words, what works well in the factory engine will not necessarily work well in your built engine. While there is a comparison chart of oils that have been run in FI built VQ engines, even that will vary from builder to builder. So, the comparison chart is a good place to begin for choosing an oil for your built engine, but there is a good chance your results will be different than what a stock block VQ achieves.
Your best bet is to ask the engine builder what they recommend. And ask them why. Is it because they have just been using some brand and weight for so long they stick with it, do they have any used oil analysis from their customer's engine builds, do they have any tear-downs on their work using a particular oil to show that it is a good match for their engines?
If you don't know who the builder was, or don't get any good answers from them, then I would volunteer the following suggestions to try:
Mobil1 0W-40 can be purchased at Wal-Marts and Auto Zone.
Rotella T-Syn 5W-40 can be purchased at Wal-Mart.
Mobil1 5W-40 is sold under the name, "Turbo Diesel Oil" and is found at Wal-Mart.
Stick with the Motul 15W-50, found online from Sharif and Performance Nissan.
Any of these are robust oils with high HTHS scores. This means they will hold up to extreme heat from your turbo very well. They are also fortified with a lot of great additives. The M1 0W-40 is the only one designed to keep catalytic converter performance and emissions in check. The others use a whole lot of additives that are not emissions friendly, and are prone to cause more ash build-up as a result. But they are more robust and hold up to abuse better. It's up to you which is more important.

Resolute:
I just wanted to commend you on the information you provided us (as well as all the other people who have sent in other oil samples)
My Z is in the shop right now having my Turbonetics ST system re-installed and I am going to be changing to a different oil (from Royal Purple 10-w30 Full Synth) in light of your write-up. I have even gone to the extent of finding an AMSOIL dealer here in Los Angeles, CA and chatting it up with him. I was wondering if you could recommend an oil for me (whether I could buy it off the shelf or have it delivered) for my single turbo Z. Here are the 'criteria' and other vital info.
-2004 Z with 287 hp VQ35DE stock block / all stock internals.
-motor has 67,000 miles all used synthetic oil but around 40,000 I changed from M1 10w-30 synthetic to RP 10w-30 (hoping I didn't do anyting wrong to my engine)
-Live in Southern Cali, just south of L.A. Winter temps are usually around 60 F and summer temps 85-90 F
-Car is not a daily driver (have other car) and boost was only used on occasion (i.e. the car was driven normally / conservatively)
-When turbo is reinstalled, it will run conservative boost setting around 9 psi.
-I care much more about protecting the engine's vital parts so I would love to have an oil that has superior protection even if that means a reduction in gas mileage.
Would you be gracious enough to offer a sugestion? I will copy and post this in your stickied oil analysis thread since that seems to be the hub so others can read. I know my question has probably already been touched-on but there is just so much infoon that thread that I havent even scratched the surface. I just wanted to ask this question in the hopes of getting a direct answer to help clear the fog and give me a good idea of what I need to go get.

I ordered all my motul from online sources off the internet that are in the US. I got it from where ever I could find it the cheapest after shipping at the time by a google search.
edit: just re-read and you asked where they got mobil 1 not motul... my bad.
