possible transmission issue?
Hey guys,
I noticed that when I am slowing down for a stop sign going maybe 15mph and i push down the clutch and try to put it in first, it sometimes doesn't engage in the gear. It doesn't grind or anything it just feels strange. Is this normal? or should I not be putting it in first?
Thanks

I believe it is a safety feature to keep you from accidentally going into first when you shouldn't be. You can do a 1st gear downshift if you push it hard enough, but they tend to be pretty hard on your drivetrain due to the gear ratios involved...
not exactly the best idea to downshift to first gear, thats not a transmission problem, most cars wont let u into first gear, if ur not doing slower than like 10mph, between like 5-9 mph, most cars will lock u out of gear, and u gotta force it into first, i wouldnt do it, it could kill ur bushings
this thread mean none of you guys know about how to defeat 1st gear lock-out on any manual transmission car.
just "putting" it into 1st is hell for the syncros and gear.
to do it the right way:
when going slow enough for being in 1st, put it in neutral, rev the motor to where you think the revs should be in 1st (aka rev-matching), then all in one go (aka fast) put in the clutch and put it in 1st.
if done right it will easily go into gear with no issues at all.
yes it is possible to put it into 1st without using the clutch but you must be near a very slow crawl.....
but why would you put it into 1st anyway? slowing down at a stop? just put it in neutral and get on the brakes.
BTW, its not like you're driving a rotary..... 350z's actually have torque so you should never use 1st unless you're coming from a dead stop
