Default Anybody use that Mobil1 extended stuff?

It's about a dollar more than regular Mobil1 and claims that you can go 15,000 miles between changes, no matter what car you drive. I'm kinda leery about waiting that long between changes so I stick with regular Mobil1 every 5,000 miles.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone use that 15,000 Mobil1 stuff?

I've used Mobil One for years. I use the 15,000 mile oil but I still change it every 5,000 miles. I figure it must contain more wear inhibitors but I'm not sure it's any better than standard Mobile 1. So am I waisting money probably but its about 5 bucks more to change the oil. I also use the best filters I can.

I used it in my 04.5 Z. It seemed to stay pretty clean up until 6500 miles. After that I started changing it at 5k as well.

It's your car and your money but synthetic can easily last 5,000 miles if not more. Changes at 3,000 is a waste.

There are several UOAs on this site "as well as bobistheoilguy.com" that show our engines don't like Mobile1 at all. I would stay away from it IMHO.

Really? Thats odd. Did he recomend anything? I change my oil about every 2500 miles, Ive been using Mobil 1 ever since my first oil change, seems like it has been doing fine. I'm going to check out that site, might have to switch oil

All the UOA's have only been on the DE engine, none on the HR yet. So since the HR engines are mostly new we might want to hold out on passing judgement quite yet.

You guys change oil. more the necessary.

I use normal Mobil 1 and go about 4500-5000 between changes on the Z

As for extended mobil 15000, I used on my audi s4, that thing dirties oil quickly, I'll push close to 10K before I see the oil losing most of its transparency.

when using normal mobil 1, the oil gets dirty about 2500K, so I guess the extended does do something better

Have been using Amsoil in my two vehicles for the past five years. I do not have a Z however, I go 10,000 between changes and all my oil analysis have been great with inhibitors still well above the change level. I am not saying use Amsoil however it is a good synthetic and can and does exceed the 10,000 mile limit. Amsoil says 25,000 but I do it at 10-12 with a filter change at 5,000.
Foreign makers have long been in favor of longer intervals then the American "recommended" 3,000 mile change. Most owners manuals state longer then the 3,000 and many feel it is a ploy to get Americans to buy more oil.
Just a thought.

They seem particularly bias towards the German Castrol “a true group 4 synthetic.” Hard to find these days, I managed to pick up several cases a while back at Autozone. You still might be able to find some around though. German Castrol UOAs shows far below average engine wear when used in a VQ35DE. However, Amsoil TSO and Motul are awesome oils as well. Give one a try.

Just do a UOA on your Mobile1 and the numbers might make you feel less than comfortable.

Well, one of those has proven to be awesome. The sticky on engine oil analysis will tell you which one.

To the OP: no one has submitted any data on the M1 EP oils yet. As far as I'm concerned with Mobil1, their 0W-40 does so well I haven't been interested in testing any of their other blends. If you use it and get a UOA done, please share it in the engine oil analysis sticky:

Mobil 1 is fine. For a non-tracked street driven NA Z, there is no need to split hairs to such an extent. You should be worrying about other things.

for those of you that change at 10,000 miles, do you use the oil filter for 10,000 miles too? because most oil filters need to be changed at least at 5,000 miles.

your oil is only as good as your filter is. if your filter stops working as efficiently at around 5,000. using the same oil for another 5,000 a capable filter for protection is actually worse for the engine.

My illogical thinking leads me to believe that as a filter becomes dirty (catching metallic) particles the filter becomes more efficient at stopping them not less. However the down side is that the filter has become a flow restrictor to the oil trying to go through it...and if the delta P becomes too high it results in oil starvation to the engine..Gotta believe auto mfr's and cars that come with Mobil 1 (Caddy's) have taken this in consideration or they will have bookoo engines being replaced under warrany...

Your thinking is right, except you neglected the bypass in the filter. Oil starvation is avoided with the bypass when delta P reaches a preset value, but so is any filtering- thereby defeating the whole point of using a filter.
