Since my car has 50,000 miles on it, i would need install kit 1 and 2. How much would it usually cost to have them installed or is the installation easy enough to do on your own with directions? thanks. I am looking to get the 4.08 final drive. Based on what I've been reading, seems it would do my 03 some good

it is not a DIY unless you've done this type of work before and have some specialized tools to check clearances, etc. Install costs will vary by shop, but should be in the 5 -7hour range

I just ordered mine from Z1 Performance today. Before doing so, I called a reputable transmission shop for a quote: $375-400. Not bad . I've installed LSD in a k20 tranny before, but haven't really messed with final drives. Prices will vary from shop to shop due to the fact that each shop will have different hourly rates.

Z1, whats the deal with the 3.9's? How much?

I know they are special order and the 4.08 is better but i have an auto and i dont want to push my engine in 5th too hard so the 3.9's are a better choice for me.

Also, speaking soley on DE vs. HR (not ness 6mt or At) are the results about the same because all i can find are results from the HR, but i want to know how this mod performs on the DE...

Also, i know i will need a 6mt diff for this, but are the mt/at pumpkins identical?

Thanks!

Ya, when i posted this since i had like 3 browser windows open, including his marketplace ad for the 3.9/4.08, i though i was posting in marketplace thread...

I didnt realize till after i posted that this was the sticky for the gears.

Ill send him a pm, thanks fellas.

This is a down the road mod for me as im doing the transgo vb upgrade + tranny cooler first no matter what. This mod, however, will put a hell of a dent in my wallet mainly because the damn 6mt diff switch.

The pumpkin housings themselves are identical yes

For an auto, you can also do the 3.7, which is a nice upgrade from the auto setup, and more readily available than the 3.9. The 4.08 is so incrementally shorter than the 3.9, and significantly cheaper, which is why it's really the no brainer for people IMHO.

Your absolutely right...but for those of us with only 5 gears, the 4.08 can put quite a strain in 5th, from what i have read. This is why i was thinking the 3.9, or yes, maybe even the 3.7.

Does anyone know if the pumpkins are the same throughout the 03-08 lifecycle of the 350z? I'm replacing my 04's pumpkin with a used one which came from an 06 and want to make sure there are no issues. Based on the parts list from mynismo.com it looks like it changed after 05 but want to confirm since the other parts all stayed the same.

where is the cheapest place I can pick these gears up? I read 10 pages into this thread, didn't really see anyone post up the cheapest link. Found em for 470 on mynismo.com, anywhere lower? Thanks!

Z1 has them at $499 IIRC.

Retail at the dealer is $624 (I checked yesterday). Cost is ~$400 if you have an account with Nissan.

we have them in stock, and the overwhelming majority of people on this board got them from us, as we also keep all the install parts ready to go, and know the setups backwards and forward

https://my350z.com/forum/drivetrain/...n-stock-6.html

Pricing has changed several times from Nissan this year, due to a variety of reasons

Question

alright so I have had my 4.08's installed for about 800 miles now. Last night was the first time I have went about 90 mph with it just to see how it pulls, and everything seemed fine. After leaving the car parked for a few hours and then driving back on the highway, I noticed a pretty loud noise coming from what I believe is the rear end during light acceleration/deceleration at around 75mph. The noise was a high pitched ringing, almost like the sound a tuning fork makes when it is ringing. Has anyone ever experienced this or does anyone know what could be causing it? Also I have noticed for the first time last night that if I am making a turn in 2nd gear, and am accelerating semi hard, the slip light activates even though I have not broken traction?

EDIT: The differential was a brand new stock differential, with brand new seals and new 4.083 ring and pinion, and the fluid was flushed at 500 miles with very minimal shavings.

Anyone road race their cars with this set up yet?
Sucks cause i just put in a cusco lsd, and should have just waited for the nismo finned cover and the 4.08 final drives before i did it. Btw, Cusco is the ish. Probably my favorite mod so far. Can't imagine wat the 4.08 feels like. the lsd makes the handling soooo predictable. i can power slide this bee-atch so easily. i do drive it like i stole it, and i am a handling junkie too though.

Hey Adam, can u recommend anyone in the north/central jersey area to do this install?
I need one of these soon, i'll be calling u.

240SX ring and pinions are not swappable - both ring gear bolts differ as well as pinion diameter
