I plan on buying one of these or the 3.9 in the near future, and was wondering if I would need any other parts (bearings, etc.) since my car only has 5,800 miles on it? Would there be any point in replacing anything with such low milage? Nice setup by the way.

Doesn't matter how many miles you have on your car, the bearings are press fit so you'll most likely damage them when taking off. Definately get new bearings for the pinion but the carrier bearings can be left alone since they aren't touched especially since you have <6000 miles.

Update on the Gears..

Put over 200 highway miles on the car this past weekend and was able to average 29mpg. Not bad at all. I would of thought the 4.083 gears would have really killed my gas tank.

Also, driving around town I am able to average around 22mpg. If I drive it like i stole it, then its around 18mpg.

Wow, that's tremendous mileage!

With standard 3.5 rear gears I get a little over 18 with normal driving and close to 24 on the highway... and I thought I was getting good mileage!

My 4.08's are ordered and on the way!

Best I average with the gears completely highway is 24-25mpg, generally 23 if i'm going 75-80. Daily commute I'll average 19-20 mixed if I'm not on it. I don't know who you're doing it aceman, could be in your tune.

Im sure it has something to do with the list of parts I have and my tune.

My average speed on the highway was 75mph.

Im very happy my MPG

Yeah...

Ironically, I've put my stock intakes back on. I have a feeling I'll make better power through the powerband with them until I get a tuner to fix the a/f that the aftermarket's screw up.

I'm curious to see what happens to my mileage after I put the 4.08's in.

I got a mileage improvement when I put my headers and cats on, or when I flashed my ECU with Osiris, or maybe both. I Flashed my ECU with Osiris about two weeks after I got my headers, so it's hard for me to tell which helped. I thought the flash would richen the fuel mixture and hurt mileage, but it doesn't seem to be the case.

I've got 330 miles on this tankful of gas. The dash light just came on, but the needle isn't down to the "E" line yet. I usually put in 16 and a half to 17 gallons when I refuel.

I'd bet your mileage stays about where it is now. My mileage now even with my built motor and the 3.9's (which I've had for a couple years) has remained the same as it was when the car was new (320 ish miles to tank, and about 16 gallons to fill each time)

I couldn't agree enough with the OP.

I made a video of my 3.9's in action:

I have not read through all the pages yet, but thought I would ask. With an increase in the rev limit, what other supporting mods should you get in order to make the car safe to rev higher. Or is the Reflash is all that's needed to rev a little more.

2003 with stock 6600rpm's here.

If you have a 2003, you should have no issue reving to 7200rpm. I have been reving that high for over 3 years.

If you want to go higher you will need head work ( springs, valves ) And from what i hear the Rod Bolts will need changed on your bottom end. Not sure what the Rods, Pistons and Crank can handle above that..

So you have the Reflash AND a Utec. I was curious if the Reflash would effect the Utec's ability to do it's job. I see that you have both, so I guess not.

It did not effect the Utec's ability to do its job, but it made it harder to tune... I did not know what the stock values were. Also, if you buy the Utec you dont need the flash to be able to rev to 7200rpm. The Utec can change your rev limit aswell.

I have both because the Utec was not available yet when I had my ECU reflashed.

Does the Utec elimitate the Speed cut as well?

will this give me better acceleration on a stock revup with the stock 7k limiter. And would it be more worth it to go this route on a stock revup or just go with the 3.9. Tuning and ECU will be my final mod but this gear ratio is very intresting for us NA folks.

Yes, this will give you better acceleration on a stock revup... If you plan on running slicks at the track, make sure you run a 27inch slick.... 26inch will be a tad too small ( hit 7000rpm before you cross 1/4 ).

yea i was thinking that also, ...my main use is for road racing when i get my car to that point. I just dont want to get these gears and find there not usuable ya know but i guess from the results its really worth it over the 3.9. And then when im able to increase my 7k rev limiter to 7.5k these should make nice use of the higher rpm. See your the only person i know with these gears, so thus the questions and no revup has them so yea....sorry for the load of questions lol

Noprob...

But we all have this in common...

STOCK gear ratio's

1st Gear Ratio: 3.794:1
2nd Gear Ratio: 2.324:1
3rd Gear Ratio: 1.624:1
4th Gear Ratio: 1.271:1
5th Gear Ratio: 1.000:1
6th Gear Ratio: 0.794:1
-Reverse Ratio: 3.446:1

I think these gears will work out nicely with the revup engine...Once you get the reflash, Utec or Osirus you will like them even more.

Later and good luck
Todd
