Default weird sound when in neutral..

I just picked up my Z and I don't even know why I didn't notice this during the test drive / test park-lol. (It's a used 2003 Base 6MT)

Well I noticed this when I parked in my driveway and put her in neutral and let the clutch go- it makes this really wierd noise like metal rattling or shaving, (sounds rotational). Not really sure what is is, but the sound goes away when the clutch is pushed in.

Anyone else expierence this? Is this normal or should I be worried I just bought a broken Z?

Thanks!

-- also, I have 57,000 miles on this car, is it still under warranty with Nissan? Or do they just warranty it till 30,000 miles? Sorry just new here!

throw out bearing. common problem. doesnt really hurt anything, just a noise.

should be covered under drivetrain warranty, although most dealers claim its normal.

standard warranty for drivetrain is 60k miles, so yes it will be covered. just dont drive 3,000 miles lol.

and i had my throw out bearing changed out with my transmission at 24k miles. now at 38k miles, the throwout bearing is making the noise. so it is normal i guess, but it can be fixed by replacing it with a new one.

HaHa I was just in my car with the windows down and was wondering if that was my throw our bearing too! in my 03' 6MT I just bought it a few days ago and was like damm! I have had other cars (RX-7, Supra) Where I have had this problem, I think I just had it replaced because I thought it was a really bad thing. Is it a bad thing? Does it hurt anything in the transmission by not getting it fixed / replaced?

My tranny whines pretty loud while the clutch is engaged. If it's a high pitched supercharger sounding whine then it's your tranny, not your throwout bearing.

I've had two aftermarket clutches on mine with new throwouts and it still makes the noise. The tranny works fine, though.

Hey, I'm the second owner on my car and I just bought it from a dealer. I did buy an extended warranty but it has a $200 deductible, am I still covered under the factory drivetrain warranty until 60K as I only have 51K on it now?

yeah your still covered. i'm not sure if its a 5 year or 6 year warranty though. even if it is a 5 year warranty, 03's will still be covered until next year
