Default New or Used Nismo Lightened Flywheel

I bought this flywheel listed as "new" so I'm going to ask this question to give the seller the benefit of the doubt since I'm a nice guy. I don't want to make the assumption even though I feel like I already know the answer. That discolored area (see links below) looks this flywheel has mated with a clutch but the seller claims it's brand new and never been installed. There looks like there's light wear around the bolt up holes, too. I don't want to prematurely pursue a fraudulent claim with the seller until I'm 100% sure since I've never purchased a flywheel before. Maybe I'm overlooking something? If so, I'd like to be educated.

Is it even remote possibly after some stage of testing at the factory that a "new" flywheel could ever look like this? Maybe certain releases? I'm just trying to cover all bases.

Below are some links to pics of the flywheel I could took with and w/out flash.

Thanks for your input.

Would you say it's lightly used enough based on appearance that I could mate a brand new clutch without worrying about poor mating and/or premature clutch wear? Since I already have the clutch in my possession, I may give the seller a chance to refund some of my money if it's worth it.

What do you think?

that seems pretty light wear. Run your fingers over the marks. Do you feel any deep grooves?

Nope, not really. To the touch, I can't really feel any differences between the colored and discolored portion of the flywheel. The pictures seem to make it look worse than it feels.

yeah, looks to be very light used. It's def used though. There shouldn't be marks around those bolt holes.

the color difference is from heat resistance. If it is pretty smooth, and there are no grooves, then it was probably installed, taken around for 100miles or so and taken out for one reason or the other. Looks used, but about as good as shape as they come if they are not in the original package. If you got a good deal on it, i would keep it, if you paid a good amount of money for it then i would put a claim in because it's not new.

True. I still got a decent deal on it. If anything, I'm just pissed because the condition was blatantly mis-stated. I even emailed him before buying it after seeing his auction description telling him that his new flywheel looked used. So he reaffirmed it was new, never installed. I was like, "cool", and bought it. I'm getting my transmission replaced Monday so now I don't have the time to pursue other options. We'll see how this guy responds. Thanks for the input.

I'd have to find a machinist to do that, right? I wonder if the dealership has that capability.

ANY machine shop in the yellow pages can do it, I had them do mine for $20, or even PepBoys and O'Reily's can do it for you, its called flywheel resurfacing, its cheap.

Don't resurface the flywheel if theres no need to. You'll just take away material unnecessarily. And that definitely looks used albeit very slighlty. I bought a barely used nismo flywheel before and it looked pretty much like your photo. Sold it off though before I got the chance to install.

It looks like it was barely used. I would just hit it with some sandpaper to break the surface. It sucks that you were lied to.

When I got my transmission replaced the dealer was supposed to install this along with my new clutch. Well, they installed my new clutch, however, they took it upon themselves to not install this flywheel because they thought it was not necessary (OEM was in good shape), even though I specifically requested it. Anyways, it's not cost effective for me to pull everything off again just to install this, which is why I'm selling it.
