If we are talking totally stock internals and just boltons, I would think that even the 300 whp mark would be tuff.
Are we talking like no cams too?

I'm getting ready to tune my car with my UTEC this winter and with all the mods listed below I'm expecting it to be respectable. Once I get that done and dyno'd I'm sure I'll be posting up the results. A lot of the mods just make the car accelerate and handle better though so it's really going to be a more well rounded autocross/roadcourse car any ways. I'm hoping for somewhere around 270-280 with all the mods and a good tune.

Someone I know is trying to argue that 320 on the ground is possible without changing displacement or compression. Obviously if it's bored and stroked with increased compression thats possible. He keeps talking about head work like it's some magical source of power. A typical DE puts about 240 to the ground. Thats an 18% loss. To get 320 one would need 390 at the flywheel. I don't think that can be done.

Even porting and polishing the heads you'd pick up what like 20hp? And for how much? I already know N/A is not cost effective. I think that maybe with advanced timing, exhaust, intake, port/polish heads, etc. one might be able to put 290-300 to the ground. 320 does not seem possible.

Headwork is the KEY to power - no matter if its FI, NA, or whatever. The head package makes the power, the bottom end essentially has to just stay together. Porting and polishing can be done to varying degrees, all depending on the level to which one goes. Same goes for the cams, the headers, etc. Real power making heads goes WAY beyond "porting and polishing". It is literally an art form. True headwork is alot more than a die grinder and a spare evening. It is really easy to make heads perform worse than stock. That is why the guys who do it and get consistent results can charge whatever they want - you're paying for their expertise.
And then you get into the whole dyno discussion. 300 whp on one dyno does not equal 300 on another.
At the end of the day, no matter what route you pick with these cars, it is expensive to make even mildly impressive numbers, FI, or NA.
