4.2L stroker & passing smog
I plan on upgrading to a GTM stroker soon. I have an 03 and will have to smog it soon. The only laws I have in my state are the exhaust sniffer and an OBD2 scan. I am also getting the aps extreme. How hard will it be t pass smog when I do finally have to do it.
Also does anyone know CO smog laws, all I know is that they have to have it checked yearly. The reason I ask is because I plan to relocaate there in a year and a half.

Passing simple tests doesn't mean you haven't violated the Federal Clean Air Act.............actually modifying an engine, then presenting it for testing KNOWNLY that it is modified means you've added FRAUD to the process.
Just because you don't get caught then, doesn't protect you.
You might be caught years later after you've sold the vehicle and some other state discovers what was done. The new owner petitiions the court to force you to return the vehicle in compliance.
Any FRAUD in the sales contracts may void the transaction leaving you with a lien or buying back the car.

This was brought a ways back and that is the reason I didnt do mine. I have the APT TT, Toyo Radiator, etc setting in my garage and not putting it on due to the smog restrictions in CA. Other states probably won't have any problem, but CA, forget it. I've also talked with shop owners and car owners that were on the forum back then and in person. Same response to all, and this is the reason I'm now going with a vortech s/c which is smog legal, till I move out of CA, then will have GTM do the biuld.

I did actually find out I have nothing to worry about in WI but I'm not sure about CO. I went down to get another vehicle smogged today and asked the guy how they do modified cars. As long as the cars OBD2 doesn't spit any bad codes out then they won't check it. If the car is older than that they do the sniffer as well. He just told me to make sure my OBD2 isn't sending any codes before I go and I'll be fine.
With that said is there anyone that knows the laws in CO or how they do the smog tests there. I'm sure this question would do better in regional but it started here so I'll leave it for a little while.

if you can slap cats on there and run it at stoichiometric AFR then you will be fine.
if the car is running rich it will produce more CO
if the car is running lean it will produce more NOx
stoichiometric is best for emissions

do you have a wideband?? what does it read during part throttle cruising at those speeds? if it's ~14.7 you're good

Yeah, of course. Now my only question would be will I be able to physically do that. Size difference is what I'd be worries about. But if thats my only problem, I don't care, thats a minor problem to overcome.

Are you running a 3" exhaust? I think the stock cats at 2.25"? They'll be a huge bottle neck in the exhaust, but they'll get you passed inspection. That's what I kept my oem cats for... Swapping them isn't hard at all. :-)

yeah it will be a bottleneck, but they'll only be on the car for a few hours. just don't drive in boost... also make sure they test the car when it is warm already, and make sure you dont have any problems with warm start

As for CO. As long as you have cats and a good tune you should pass just fine. As for C.E.L's even if its on you can still pass, they finally realized that just cause the light is on doesnt necc. mean theres a severe problem. My car has a insufficent catalyst code and passed just fine.
