Default Need the size nut from AC tensioner

does anyone know the size nut that you loosen from the tensioner to get the AC belt off? It's not in my service guide. Help would be greatly appreciated.

I know this isn't much help, but it's either 13, 14, or 15mm. A wrench is best for the pully, and a socket for the tensioner bolt. It's beel a while since i did mine. You have to loosen the nut on the pully and then turn the bolt on the tensioner. I believe they are both the same size. And you have to pull your other belt off first if you are gonna replace your ac belt.

yeah, the nut uses a 14mm tool. I already know how to take it off and install. This will be my 6th time installing a new belt.

A wrench is actually not best when using for the pulley. My dumb self partially stripped it using a wrench because the socket was too far away to reach while being under the car, which is why i'm asking what size is the nut incase the dealership is closed tomorrow. I rather be safe than sorry. Thanks.

6th time!!! Damn!!! Has the belt actually been dying on you, or have you been taking it off as an AC delete? I changed mine at 50,000mi for the first time. And that was only cause i had to remove them to install my SC and i decided to put a new one on while i was at it.

that's what i'm trying to figure out. It's been shreading off every 1k miles. I barely drive my car. i even took it to nissan and they said everything was right and i was over revving my car or something. Which is incorrect. This time, instead of buying a genuwine nissan belt, i bought a gatorback belt.

Only thing i can think is that you overtightened it. I did that to my blower belt and it ate itself in less then 1500 miles. If they are too hot to touch after a drive, then they are too tight. Or if they feel really sticky and soft.

hmm, this might be a possibility. I'll try to loosen it a bit. All i know is Nissan installed a set as well and it ripped off too. I think there should be only 1/4 inch deflection on the belt once installed.

Another possibility i'm thinking is that the belt gets too loose and starts coming off on the side and shreadding from there. I never double check after a couple of days of driving. I keep forgetting.

Thanks for the tip.

No prob!! Here's what i did and it seemed to work. Tighten it just past the point where it doesn't squeel when you start the car with the ac on. Then after a week or so it'll stretch (normal) and start to squeel again. Then get under again and tighten again. If you are putting on you belt and never having to re-tighten it to get rid of squeel a week or so later, then you are prob definatly going too tight. That's what the Stillen guy told me and it worked like a champ!

Good luck!!

I'll try that. What's another 25 bucks? lol.

Yeah, i usually tighten it tight so when it stretches, it's perfect..but this might be the problem. We'll see.

bump for bolt size. Also i called nissan and their parts department will be closed tomorrow. I wonder if i can get away with a non-automotive nut.
