ECU "learning" Fix??
I've been reading lately that a lot of people are disconnecting the batter to reset the computer and get the most out of their mods. Coming over from the Prelude world, we have been doing this for quite some time. To keep from always having to get out and unhook the battery, a bypass mod was developed. I was wondering how feasible this would be for the 350z. Here is the article.

That's a very interesting idea that the prelude guys came up with... i'm a bit skeptical if you can apply this to the Z, the only reason being, our ecu has multiple networks to other systems in the car via local-area network...by disengaging the back-up power supply to the ECU, perhaps it will alter your throttle position memory, which is needed to prevent the electronic throttle body from hanging at certain RPMs if the 'learn' sequence is not properly done when the ECU is reset..
thats a cool link tho.. thanks!

I think it would depend on which wire is interupted. But to me it should be no different then unhooking the negative battery terminal for 5 minutes to reset the ECU.
I have not seen a good wiring diagram for the 350 ECU, so at his point it is all speculation. I'm sure you have more knowledge on the subject than I.

This same technique works on my 95 M3. Allot of the E36 guys would disconnect their batteries right before dyno runs. Some claimed it could net them 3-5hp. I guess it doesn't really matter, the computer just re-learns after a while anyway.
There was a lot of research on this by some Prelude owners. 5+whp was usually gained with basic bolt-ons by resetting the ECU. And it was also found that it takes about 2 weeks for the ECU to totally detune certain mods.
With this mod the computer will never really learn the mods. So in effect you start out with a blank slate every time you start the car.
I have no mods yet, so I'm just throwing this up for ideas.

Nope I'm getting the S-AFC II. Not sure how it's going to adapt to the ECU. Just have to see when I get it installed and tuned. Just have to find the time to get it to the shop....
There isn't any power FC adaptations to the 350Z yet. I have no idea if they are working on it... maybe I should go put a bug in their ear about it though....
I'll let all you guys know how it goes when I get it in and if I can figure how to read it post the settings, though I do suggest getting it tuned properly rather than going off my numbers.
