Default Engine Knock on start up

Just bought an 03 track 57k and in the mornings when I crank the car there is a brief rattle or knock comin from the engine till the it builds oil pressure. Should I be worried? It lasts at the most 2 seconds. As longs as the car is warm it doesnt do it. I tried search and no results. Thanks

^^^ +1 try a lighter oil like a 5w30. If it still lags in building oil pressure, you may need a new oil pump or a good engine flush... And Yeah, I'd be very worried about that condition either way.

Nothing to worry about. The timing chain runs off a hydraulic tensioner that is oil pressure based. For a second or two you might hear the chain contact the timing chain case until oil pressure comes up. My 01 Maxima did it and my 04 G35 did it.

So you wouldn't be concerned about no oil pressure for the first few seconds after start up?

It takes minimal time to build pressure. I was just worried about the knock.

Unless you have a priming pump to give oil pressure before start up, it's something you have to live with on the DE motor.
