I put in amsoil last fall. I've noticed a significant improvement at shifting, especially in the cold.

The only things about RP Max Gear that worry me are the GL5 rating ( I would use a strictly GL4 rating only and not a GL4/GL5 rating like RP) and that it contains friction modifiers (used in rear diff gear oils).

I wouldn't use it. GL-5 is a hypoid application, and the Extreme Pressure (EP) additives that are used to meet GL-5 specs are corrosive to yellow metals, such as those used in the synchros. It would be fine for your differential, but Nissan specs a GL-4 oil for the transmission, and I would stick to that.
