Default Looking for a taller gear...

Hey guys (and gals),

I am looking for a taller rear end gear to run in the Silver State Classic Challenge. I have already swapped out my stock 3.53 gear for the 3.35 gear from and automatic Z.

I am looking for at least a 3.2 or lower number to run lower rpm at higher speeds. Ideally, I would like to find perhaps a 2.9 or something in that range so that I can achieve 200mph at reasonable engine rpms. I have not been able to find anything so far lower (taller) than 3.35.

Does anyone know where I can find anything like this?

Thanks in advance!

I thought taller meant faster acceleration and shorter meant higher top end.

4.11 > 3.55
Tall > Short

I am running the 3.35 now for the high speed events. Where did you hear about the 3.2 gear? Please PM me - the filter here covers your ???????.com website.

Couldn't you alter the tire size also to achieve an effectively taller gear?

Try this link.

Its a list on all Final drives for Nissan vehicles

http://www.nicoclub.com/Greg/ratios.html

I am running 4.083s in my car and they came out of a

Nissan Frontier
2005-2007 King Cab M/T 2.5L
C200
4.083

So maybe the

Nissan Frontier
2006 A/T 4.0L 2WD
C200
2.937

Will work for you

Hope this helps

If I can get a 2.937 gear, it will definitely happen. And I already have the video mount in my car.

But I am sure that I would not have the first "street legal" 350Z to top 200mph. SOmeone must have already done it by now...???

I think I have the power to do close to 220mph, just not the gearing.

How much HP do you need to reach those speeds? Cause I know its not all in the gearing

The 2002 Q45 had a weird low economy diff gear at launch 2.93?
" For 2003, a new, higher numerical final drive gear ratio of 3.133:1 is utilized for better acceleration feel."

Check out this webiste. Enter your data and you can compute a top speed.

Most of the 350Z specs are easy to find. If you have a dyno plot that you can copy, it is pretty accurate. A lot depends on aerodynamic drag at high speeds.

Todd,

Did the ring and pinion fit your Z pumpkin/diff with no modifications? Are you running an open diff, stock VLSD or some other LSD?
