Default Ok this worries me

Now this only happens when the car has been warmed up and driven for a bit. The sound can only be described as a tick that sounds like a "pilot light ignition spark" found in gas heaters and stoves, kinda random with no real pattern to it. I've noticed this on older cars after parking where you would hear random clicking after shutting off the engine. Any ideas to what this could be?

It's the heat shields and other (usually) exhaust components cooling down. No worries.

Have you checked your oil level?

If it is a constant "tick...tick" sound as the engine is running that is the sound of the valves. If it is noticeable it may be an indication of low oil. I would suggest you allow the vehicle to get to operating temperature; then check the oil level. Then monitor it every time you use the car for the next six times. Then compare your oil levels to see if there is a big variation in levels. If there is a problem you should see the level start to drop between the first measurement and the last.

+1 To all the posts stating that it is the engine and exhaust components cooling down. That is what it sounds like to me, standard vehicle noises, no worries.

I had this same issue and it ended up being the catalytic converters cooling off. This is the case, especially if it sounds like it's coming from under the car towards the engine bay (where the cats are).
