So changing my oil right now, and this is what I rubbed off my magnetic drain plug. Should I be worried, or is this good the magnet is grabbing this fine material? This is an '03 with just under 122K.
Two things: Since you have such a strong and prominent fingerprint pattern stay away from a life of crime. If you see something in the oil that gives you pause, cut the oil filter open and study the inlet side to see what surprises have accumulated there.
Hard to tell from that pic by itself. Have a UOA done to get a better picture of the condition of your VQ.
On my change prior to this, I had my AMS oil rep due oil test for me. Looking for the data and him providing information on what the readings were, basically engine was in good shape for my mileage. Test was done at 113k.

No worries, my physical finger prints don't matter with crimes I committ, haha. I'll cut into the filter and try to if it has any course material.

I make sure to clean it everytime cause I want to see if I'm picking anything up. I clearly picked up some material now. Past 2 changes haven't been this dirty/grey, just "regular" dark brown and a little build up.
