As always the question is the cost of additives vs cost of racing gasoline.

Unfortunately chemicals-solvents have tripled as has the price of crude.
Meth cooks use solvents and it makes it difficult to buy in useful quanities, now if you can deal with 10,000 gallons and tanker cars it can be pretty cost effective.

What is the rating octane you put in your Z in USA ?
Here in France we have no more choice : 95 and 98... For our Z we give the 98, but price : 1.32€/l ($1.84/l)

better living on your country, even with low octane...

EU octane ratings are calculated a little differently than US. There are various methods of doing that. Last time I was in Europe I took the note of it and did the whole conversion as I was curious how your gas compares against ours. Basically, your 98 is roughly the same as our 93.

Xylene is a good additive to boost octane although it's costly. It's really only good if someone made a mistake and filled you up with 87 instead of premium. Other than that, the economics don't make sense. Methanol or ethanol is much more cost effective.
