Default Some Upgrades Coming my way

So I have been reading and reading tons of useful information regarding modifying your car. Whether it be NA or Boosted it seems that the best and first mod that anyone should get is a Piggy Back Computer.

I've read about so many different applications but my question is. Best bang for your buck. To be able to be used in both a NA or a Boosted environment.

And don't say search unless you tried yourself. The other day I was searching for Veilside Side Wings, and everything from BBQ wings to Hot wings came up pages and pages of un-related stuff. It was funny reading, but come on...

Thoughts? Discuss.

too vague, are you wanting to evintually go FI or stay NA? What are your goals?

Even with engine management, this is a very important question.

Well for now I want to take advantage of some NA Mods and to push the stock motor a lil more. But eventually I want to Boost.

N/A - Reflash, Utec
FI - Utec, F-Con, Etc.

Piggybacks arent worth a ****, especially if you are going FI. I dont know where you read tons of information on modifying your car but if you would have read this forum you would have known that already.

Utec is a piggyback...and it is worth a ****, and its popular with the F/I guys that cant afford/dont need Haltech or Fcon... Regardless there are other mods you can do before messing with engine management OP. wouldnt waste money on a reflash or UTEC if i'm bone stock. start with the basic stuff, plenum spacers, popchargers, and high flow cats/test pipes. then start thinkin about UTec, it can be useful if youre running full boltons with cams (almost necessary with cams).

Thanks for the help. Well I plan on getting the plenum spacer, I have a Pop Charger. I want to get an exhaust. I'm gonna leave the stock headers in place. If I go turbo most likely gonna go Turbonotics route. I do have a Lightweight flywheel and Exedy Stage 1 Clutch.

I'm a Computer Engineer and I would have fun just tinkering, understanding and later tuning my own car. 1 Step at a time though.

Technically, I believe the UTEC is more like a parallel ECU than a piggyback. With the MAP sensor the UTEC is not modifying the MAF signal but controlling the injectors independently.

Considering the FCON is locked to dealers only, the Haltech would be more up your alley if you want to get into the software and tuning side. Compared to a UTEC it is a much more capable unit and will not run "rough around the edges" like many UTEC customers complain about. It also has many more features, such as dual wideband control and interfacing with the oem CAN system to read in values like yaw, g-sensor, wheel speeds, etc.
