Default Carbonetic LSD

Is the Carbonetic LSD a direct replacement for the OE LSD? Just a simple swap?

some diff fluid...
also good would be a nismo rear diff cover.
also prepare to get dizzy with the break in...
then change oil again.

if the car has any meaningful mileage (over 20k or so) Id also do new rear bearings and seals at the same time

Get a can of the genuine ATS fluid. It's important to change the fluid around the 300 mile mark and break in the diff correctly. After that, you can expand the fluid changes to every 3000 miles... just do it with the oil.

From what I've read/heard, it's especially important to break in the diff with their lube. You'll get break-in instructions with the diff.

Changing the diff is also the perfect time to change the final drive ratio if you're thinking about doing that.

I wasn't aware that you had to do the figure 8 thing with a carbon diff.

I did the figure eight thing for 20 minutes and then drove straight home and drained the fluid. I wanted to drain the fluid while all the carbon particles were still suspended in it. I used a large parking lot behind our office and did it on a Saturday afternoon.

I seem to remember the instructions saying you could just drive the car for 300 miles or so and break it in that way, but I forget the specifics of that.

Carbonetics makes a fine diff... it works well... it's quiet and doesn't clunk at all... The only slight negative is that you have to change the fluid a bit more often than normal... I'm happy with mine.

Break in for Carbonetic does require you to do the figure 8 for 15-30 minutes and then around 200 miles of street driving is recommened. Make sure you use the right fluid and change it after the break in.

Here's the break-in info direct from the Carbonetic's web site.

Well I guess there's a slight difference between km and miles - lol. Thanks for posting jb. Kind of a PITA to do it every 1800 miles.

Who thinks doing it every 3k miles is ok? Damn, for every 1800, I might get a fumoto valve on there for quick drain and refills - thoughts?

It really depends on your driving. Its perfectly ok to do it every 3,000 miles, same as an engine oil change. 1,800 is a little overexagurated number.

My plans are also to do it with the oil changes.

I talked to a couple of people that I trust and they both suggested 3000 mile intervals... i.e., with the oil changes.

One of the perks of the Quaife. Just over 10k miles and I've been considering changing oil since its been about a year and a half. But I don't have to.

I use Redline 75W-90. Motul gear oil works also. Amsoil has one also.
