Unhappy Goodbye OEM internals.

well guys. Something that i have been expectin to happen finally happened.

My motor blew. It happened on the way coming from work. im not gonna get into details on how it happened. But now its time for rebuild and a 500+ whp build.

My car's gonna be parked for a couple of months.

Im gonna go do some of the work such as pullin the motor and takin it apart. I gotta find a shop to do the block build and i gotta find some forged internals first. Any suggestions on a shop in or around CT.

I'm gonna do a build thread once i buy everything.

and lastly, what do you guys recommend to buy. im new to the vq motors since im coming from a s2k so i havent done much research on these motors.

its not cuz of the tune. We are known for weak rods anyways. besides, you put forced induction on any car, prepare for it to blow sooner or later.

I would recommend looking at the SGP engine building services. I just got my engine and tranny back from them yesterday. It is not installed yet, of course, but I have had good experiences for the most part. Call them and ask for Thomas. www.sgpracing.com 281-444-9195

Like I said.... it should be posted in the FI forum. You'll get alot more useful info there on your build.

So you came here to tell us about your blown motor and aren't giving the full story?

I'm guessing there was a boost controller or mis shift involved.

I'm running the kit on 91 octane ( that is the best I can get in CA ), TN Ecu reflash and a stock block with no issues. Please tell me how that would cause a failure or blow a motor. I think there is more to this story but will wait on the details. I'm not starting a flame war or trying to pick a fight here but the above is incorrect.

A reflash is only "improper" if someone installs it and fails to verify that it is properly operating, meaning making proper AFR's throughout the powerband, making healthy power, and not detonating.

If the owner never verifies the reflash is running properly in the first place, or makes a drastic change to the setup without validating these points, then it's the owner's responsibility when he has issues.

Also, the reflashed ECU with the turbonetics kit was designed to be run on 91 octane, but also retains the ability to slightly adjust fuel based on octane and timing advanced based on knock.

I wonder if any gauges were being used which are critical in any FI setup.

It really sucks that the highest octane we can get is the 91 octane. I can get 100 ocatane trick fuel at $6.49 a gallon but it does get costly. I don't even want to add I am paying $3.93 for that crappy 91 octane.
