Default To Borla Owners (is this normal?)

To everyone who also owns the Borla dual....with the windows down, a distinct hissing niose accompanies the exhaust note...is this simply the exhaust gasses flowing out the back, or is oe of my clamps not fully tightened? It sounds fine, just making sure.

I have this hiss sound also when I park the car and rev the engine. It sounded like it's coming from the h-pipe.. I have checked the clamps, but they seems fine.. Could it be the resonator?

A hissing noise is not normal. Did you or your installer apply silicon to each of the joints on installation?

It is not necessarliy a leak. It could very well be the exhaust flowing more freely. However, I would rely on the opinion of someone with the exhaust system.

It may very well be at the H pipe. Had to pull the two pipes together a bit to get a fully seated fit. Also make sure the clamps cover the slots -- if you put a clamp on where the slot is lined up with the clamp bolt you may get a leak through the slot. Mine has no leaks (no hissing) -- it's a DIY install too.

I bet he's reffering to the resonator (normal) which makes more of a rattling-hissing sound as you lift off the throttle. Try accelerating in 1st (not hard) and just letting it back down. You need to be in a Alleyway or next to a wall of some sort.

I had my exhaust installed at Borla in Oxnard and, as I recall, had no hissing sound. But then again I can't confirm because my car is back at Borla getting fit for headers. Maybe you should go back to the installer, check the clamps yourself, or better yet call their customer service at 877-GO-BORLA.

Hey, that is exactly how I can duplicate the hissing sound! When I rev the engine a little and let off, I can hear it.. so this is normal resonator sound?

I also have to stick my ear close to under the car to hear this, I don't hear it with the doors closed (inside).

The hissing sound I thought it was normal. Because the stock exhaust did the same. When you first started the car and not moving, the hissing sound is there. Now that I got the Borla, the hissing sound is still there. So I thought it was normal.

Although mine is an Injen, I hear more like a humming noise at idle only. My connections are tight though. Could be normal.

It would be best to check the system for leaks now rather than wait. Even after driving just a few days, you can sometimes see where it was leaking because of condensation running out of the joints where it is leaking.

Also, the h-pipe connection on mine was leaking at first. I had to take everything loose and squeeze the two halves together while clamping it. Then after that I tightened down the rest of the clamps and everything is fine now.

Thanks guys. Im gonna take it over to my buddies (installed it with me, used to be a mechanic), and double check all the clamps. It could be normal, but its just a little louder than i think it should be.
