Is it necessary, no. Could you clean it, yes. Does it make a difference, probably not.

Installing a catch can will help to eliminate anymore oil from getting in there.

if you get a backfire and the oil lights, then you backfire again and shoot fire all the way back and light your filter on fire, then its spreads and melts the gas line, then yes
