Default Is this normal?

Installed my new plenum spacer and noticed oil sitting in the center section of the intake plenum. Is this normal? Thanks!!

a certain amount is normal, not sure how much that "certain" amount is though. I have heard of some of the 06s having puddles.

its oil vapor condensation....this is why a catch can would assist with fixing the problem

yeah this is pretty typical on the 3.5's, like said before get a catch can or for a quick fix you can use a fram g3 fuel filter on the hose, make sure you use the clear though so you can check it

Yep, normal. A catch can will take care of most of it.

That looks mild actually, when I broke down my engine for my turbo build and removed that brass cover, there was much more oil sludge in there then you have pictured. My car is an 03 though, with around 60k on it, and I'm sure it had never been cleaned out previously.

they have a DIY for oil catch can on here also. I made one last year and it worked. Its simple to make and and had to clean it out like every other month.

just a thought, if you install a catch can, should you clean out the plenum? or will it eventually clean it self out? very curious about this.

Same thoughts as everyone else, do the homemade catch can that is posted on this site, to minimize this oil & sludge.

Might as well clean it since you're there.

I built my own catch can, seems to be working good. I gotta take the plenum off and clean out everything for the hell of it tho... Do I have to worry about messing up my gasket if I take it off just to clean it?

i can add the catch can in like 15min, taking off the plenum and everything would take much longer than that, so that is why i wanted to know if it was necessary.
