Default Just installed ACT clutch and streetlight flywheel

Just picked up my 350z with the new installation and seems to be chattering off of second gear I can hear it inside, but after 3000 rpm it disappears. And its kinda tough sometimes when I try to shift into fifth gear. The mechanic said I have to break it in drive it normally for about 500 miles. I dont know what to make of this doesn't seem to make sense

chatter is going to be there. That's normal/ Adam at Z1 swears that it's quieter than the JWT set up but i heard one it person, it's louder than my set up for sure.

I'm torn between ACT and JWT when the time comes.

Both great companies.

the noise you are talking about, it's not going away. You will hear it under 2.5k rpms or if you are too high in a gear. Also you will hear it at idle.

And no, you don't have to take out the whole thing just to get to the shifter.

yup its normal, JWT has it too, try not to take it up above 3k rpms either for that 500 miles

Flywheel chatter is there to stay though

I think i know what is causing the chattering with everyones clutches. It might be the space the lightflywheel has left. Cause when you compare the light flywheel and the stock you can tell the stock flywheel is thick all the way through. I also see that you can add a hub to the clutch as well maybe to fill the space that the light flywheel has left. So the ? is who has a hub with the installed as well and is there still the chattering with the hub installed?

weight (mass) is a damper. The stock flywheel is a dual mass unit, and very very heavy. This makes the noise very well dampened. The lightweight flywheels are single mass units, and as such, have much better overall resoinse, with the byproduct of increased noise. There is nothing you can do to make it better, it is what it is

I don't mind the chatter of the ACT setup. Its pretty loud but I'm not exactly driving a luxury car so I don't care. The upsides are far greater than the downsides.

I just got both the ACT clutch and Flywheel and SS lines installed, chatter is ridiculous. Im having trouble getting the car to move in 1st gear... but after that its all gravy. Is this normal? No matter how softly I disengage the clutch it chatters and the car shakes... It seems like it wants me to launch really hard... its confusing...

you bought a performance oriented clutch and setup, that is exactly what it's supposed to do

chatter is a relative term...if you search around, you will see some level of noise is normal, and all of the flywheels exhibit more noise than stock due to design differences

that being said, having a performance clutch and lightweight flywheels means learning how to modulate your left foot better to get smooth engagements from a dead stop. It will require a slower release of the clutch pedal from a dead stop, coupled to about 200-250 more rpm than you normally would give with a stock clutch

^ Thanks alot. Ill definitely experiment. Cause so far Ive tried launching really hard, slowly disengaging and it still goes crazy. I have yet to get a smooth disengagement, the only way I got somewhat of a smooth launch is when I rev really high, remove my foot slowly of the clutch pedal and as soon as it disengages just remove my foot off the clutch really fast. I know that sounds weird but I have alot of experimenting to do.

I might have forgot to mention this, I played around with the clutch disengagement point (becuase I was not happy with how high it was) when the car was stock. Also, I put in the so called D-wolf clutch kit (those stoppers, there is a DIY somewhere on the forum). I think that it might have something to do with the car launching really rough. But I can't be sure just yet. Plus the weather blows...

the weather really has nothing to do at all with the clutch release

here is what I would do

1. get yourself a factory service manual
2. take whatever d wolf thing you got out
3. reset the clutch free throw adjustment back to stock, factory Nissan specs per the service manual

practice driving from a dead stop by giving the car slightly more revs than you normally would

I'd advise doing this asap, so you dont cause any issues with premature wear, etc with the new clutch/flywheel
