How do you know when your tranny is going? For example when I'm driving in third and I give it gas (full throttle) the cars rpms slowly go up. However, some times I will hear a pop (from under the car) and the cars power will go back to normal and take off. I do get it in 2nd as well. The other gears seem fine. I dropped the car off at Nissan. It's an 03 with 15700 miles. I have a catback, test pipes and aem intake. All don't void warranty. However, I just bought this car from a dealer and they give you a 3,000 miles 90 day warratnty 100% parts and labor. My Nissan powertrain just expired 4 days ago! I hope this gets taken care of. Otherwise I seriously got hosed!

Wasn't there a recall on the 03's having issues with the 3rd gear? We have a few members that had this issue and got it fixed at the dealership at no cost. Mine is an 03 with 18,000. I'm waiting for it to happen.

well if your rpms are going up without the speed raising, then your clutch is beat. Replace that.

and the pop you hear, idk what that could be. does it sound like a backfire or like a knock on wood pop

You can tell because you are an experienced driver. Getting the dealer to duplicate the problems is a different story. Good luck.

I really think the gears are going in the tranny. The clutch grabs fine in first and pulls all the way to redline. 2nd and 3rd are different by far. Tranny make a rattle at idle in neutral. Notchy shifting in 3rd too. Good old Nissan quality.

When gears go bad inside a transmission, the broken teeth usually find their way in between the teeth of the other gears... Things usually get worse very quickly from there...

Notchy shifting just means that the synchronizer rings are burred or damaged.

You need to get version 9 of the transmission... Not heard anything too bad about the latest and greatest, so looks like Nissan is back on track.

did you put a new clutch in at the time too? Did third bog out too? Like slowly the rpms would go up around 3800 to 4000?

Put it in 5th and from a roll, floor it. It the tach jumps slowly and the speedo doesn't, welcome to your next clutch.

Excellent suggestion. If the motor turns and the rear wheels do not, something in between is broken.

New clutch at 15,000 miles? That would suck, though it doesn't explain the popping sound he's hearing.
