Default Universal Dyno Law

Is it just me or does anyone hate how one dyno reads differently than another one. I think there should be a universal correction factor for each type of dyno so that way everyones will read very similiar. That way if I run my car on a mustang dyno I can apply a set correction factor and would know what I would run on a dyno jet (this correction factor should be set so if I run a stock car it would read the same as the factory specs ex. 306hp for a 350z). Without this you really just have a good guess to your power and it is more a tool for tuning. I think we should start some kind of petition and send it to dyno companies and also get the car manufacturers involved to see how much drive train loss percentage there is. There is no reason that we shouldn't have this with the precise instruments that we use today!

even so, you really cant mess with the factors at the drag strip. if a car dyno's 500 whp, then runs 13.0 @ 109 at near sea level, then we can know that the dyno was reading really high. on the other hand, if you dyno 240, then run 13.6 @ 103 at a denver track, we can know that the dyno was reading really low. at a dyno, the operator can get you a bunch of extra horsepower or lose you a bunch, just by putting in incorrect parameters and how tightly they strap the car down

the only way to have a universal dyno readout would be to calibrate them all using the exact same method. not gonna happen.

Default what i mean

what I mean is that there would be set correction factors for each type of dyno so that when someone said they used a dyno jet you could figure out what they would read on a mustang dyno. Also, different shops use different correction factors so going to one with a dynojet and then another with the same dynojet won't read the same.

You answered your own question the best: The Dyno is a tool used for tuning.
Don't get all caught up in being a Dyno Queen..like JT said trap speeds don't lie

or just hook the engine directly to the dyno... I could be wrong but I believe most the error is in the formulas used to "correct" the reading.

Everybody is forgetting the biggest potential problem with this idea.

If all dynos read the same where would we get our inflated dyno numbers?????????????

There are alot of ego's at risk here.

everyone would have to use the exact dyno, on the same day at the same time which is imposible. there are many variations of dyno's out there. i like the dyno pack dyno myself. no straps or roller. machine is bolted direcetly to car. even then, weather, gas, and altitudeis are factors.

dyno should be use more for tracking your power gains, not so much for nut-flexing..

but I do like dynapack, cuz it allows me to flex my nutz, cuz of the higher reading.
