flashing cel typically represents a misfire. get the code (autozone, advance auto) pulled to identify which cylinder is misfiring then you can inspect the coil, plug, etc.

slppy is right. it is usually an individual cylinder misfire. IIRC, the CEL will flash and you can count the flashes which will tell you which cylinder is misfiring. I don't know if that's true or not; I just use a OBD2 scanner to tell me what codes I have.

there is no way of knowing without the code. i would bet on a coil or plug but anything would just be a guess.

i have the same prob. the only code i get is p0300. i troubleshot it down to all my driver side cylinders were not firing! i changed the cam sensor, checked the coils, plugs and injectors. everything check out good. the next thing i need to change is the crank sensor.

Simplest problem is a fried coil pack. Let it idle and unplug/replug each coil pack one by one. If one of them being unplugged doesn't affect the idle, that is your bad pack/cylinder. Other than that it could be anything from wiring issues to a bad injector.
