Default Anyone here actually installed the nismo cams?

i'm looking at buying these. the local dealer can get them but for 1700 and then 10 hours of labor at 69$ an hour to install them. want a realworld feedback. also are there any plans for other companies to release others?

For starters, www.courtesyparts.com sells them cheaper.

well i just got a quote from the same dealer for 1600 plus install. if courtesy has them i bet they wont throw in free shipping and that will probably make up the difference. i've seen them for 14 and some change but i'm not willing to wait 2 weeks. i want them now.

Go with another company. Nismo is going to make moderate gains, but they have to maintain OE idle quality. For a slightly lumpy idle, you can probably make a significant amount more horsepower for less money!

The cams don't carry a warranty anyway, right?

Tomei has all kinds of offerings for the 350z. Check at www.sgpracing.com

They can tell you the gains better than I can.

I've talked to Kyle and he says that the Tomei cams will work with stock springs. However, like you, I'll err on the side of caution and get new springs when Jun cams.

Rumor (unofficially verified by me) is that JWT made/designed the cams for NISMO and that they are fairly mild cams. JWT will be making his own (more radical) street cams that he will sell with his name on them. They should have better performance gains than the NISMO. No word on pricing or availablity yet.

Now this may be a dumb question so bear with me:

With cams in general, I know the more radical they are the rougher the idle. Now with this rougher idle, is it easier to stall the engine? Is that why they are more geared towards racing only applications rather than daily driver??? Any insight? Thanks!

Yes the engine will stall more easily with aggressive cams due to less available vaccuum. The guy that had a dropping RPM problem a couple of times that thought it was his GK experienced a mild form of what a cam would do if it is too big.

i talked to mike there and i'm going to end up getting the big cams with their titanium retainers. they currently don't have other valvesprings yet but once they do i will do it also. i'll have them in 4-6 weeks hopefully as they are on backorder.

Anyone know of the actual HP & TQ gains/losses for the Tein cams? I have tried looking @ various websites on the net selling them, and none actually list solid numbers. Hmmmm....

dunno about the teins but if the grinds are the same as the tomei's then you should expect 20-30hp.

So they're on backorder for 4-6 weeks? Good, I can go ahead and place my order now. And like you, 2k3, I'll probably pick up the titanium retainers.

Juztin,

Potato Head is right, but I don't think the Nismo cams are agressive enough to seriously inhibit your daily driving.

Do a little research on Tomei. They have several grinds that offer different lift, duration, and overlap characteristics to suit your specific driving needs.

Take care.

Anyone know an answer to this?? I was under the impression all Nismo parts (installed by Nissan) would be covered under orig. warranty.
