Hi,
i bought the greddy water temp adapter pictured below? Am i supposed to hook up a ground on this thing somewhere in the engine bay?
There is no screw mount for a ground anywhere?

HUMM?? okay well then i dont know what's wrong with my set up??
I installed the greddy water temp on the rad hose and ran the wire to the gauge! gauge works, well lights and stuff.
i even disconnected that gauge and tried an identical 2nd on i had? STill no worky??
any idea's?

You dont ground the adapter... You ground the temp sensor, yes. One wire to the guage, one wire to ground. I used the engine.. The timing cover to be exact if I recall.
Where did you mount this? Upper radiator hose?

darn, so im gonna go try this when i get home....
so from the sensor mounted on the greddy adapter i have to have two wires coming off the sensor, one to ground, one to the gauge?

ohh i get the question. yeah you have to have two wires from the sensor. since the sensor isnt grounded by contact, you need a wire to get there. if it isnt grounded you wont get any current through the wire, so the gauge wouldnt register any temp

You got it. Since you used the upper radiator hose, you can use that existing ground point on the passenger side of the timing cover to ground your temp sensor, its close and convenient.

okay,
Im guessing now my gauge must be broken??
I hooked up two wires as shown in the picture, one to the gauge and one to the existing engine ground right next to the engine cover but the gauge still doesnt work?
any ideas?

^ you are grounding out your signal. place the black lead lower on the body of the sensor. you can use a small hose clamp and bare wire to get a good ground signal from the BASE of that sensor to the chassis.
The top portion of a temp sensor is electrically isolated from the bottom part. You need one wire going to the top (central) portion of the sensor and the other wire going to the lower (outside) part of the sensor. The sensor is just a variable resistor.

You can ground the unit from the back of gauge to any good ground source within the vehicle. The only wire attached from the sensor itself is the one that actually goes to the sensor port on the gauge. There should be a separate connector port on the rear of the gauge for ground only and one for lighting.
yeah, rcdash has got it. normally, the sensor would be grounded through the threads but because its on a hose you have to wire the threads to a ground, which is exactly what rc said
Yep, never trust the stupid factory gauge! That OE gauge won't go up until the temp reach to ~250. That's exactly what I want to do next!
Does anyone know the size of the Greddy's adapter? Also, where do you guys get the 12V power source and the lighting source?
