Default Lifter noise?

I have had a lifter noise for some time now but finally got around to taking the valve covers of but nothing that i can see seems to be causing it. Anyone ever had any lifter problems. I have a 2004 350z with 117,000 miles. Are the lifters solid or hydraulic?

follow service manual instructions for checking valve lash, you don't have lifters in a vq.the cams act directly on valve, different thickness buckets determine lash.

Those buckets are called lifters

to the op. get a feeler gauge and check the clearances. Refer to Service manual for specs

you actually have to take out the cam and install a thicker bucket and check the clearance. The service manual will tell you what clearances you're supposed to have.
Its a PAIN in the @$$ to do.

you do have to pull cams to adjust, but not to check.you actually need cams in to check.you might only need to change a bucket or two,so check and do the math.to determine what you need compare to service chart.bucket # is underside of bucket so expect some down time unless shop you go to has spares saved up.
