Default Is your 2nd gear a little more 'notchy' than other gears?

Hi y'all my 2nd gear in my 08 350z stick is a little more notchy than other gears. Car is brand new and it's doing this?

My previous stick-shift cars have been this way but less noticable.

First to second has always been a tough gear change in the Z and many other cars; it also has a lot to do with the driver. Wait for it to warm and it should get better.

Honestly, after driving it for a while you will figure out how to smooth it out. There is post after post of guys on this board asking about the transmission, the high engagement point, the loud noises it occasionally makes and how they can't seem to keep it smooth after driving the thing for 5 years.

We have a finicky transmission. Learn to love it.

thanks y'all. definitely does shift better under heavy acceleration and higher and more aggressive shift points.

this will be a good excuse when i get pulled over.

I'm going to try a synthetic manual trans fluid, like REdline. Synthetics flows better when cold and retains viscosity better when hot.

This helped my Prelude, I'm going to try it on the Z.

i found this problem was reduced after i switched to redline synthetic fluids, however in the mornings shifting is still "notchy" until it warms up.

once warm its perfect.

There is a small hint of notch/grind going into 2nd gear on my car as well, and my car has ~300 miles on it. (not a typo!)

I have an 04 Nismo with a brand new tranny that does the same. I am glad to hear people say it settles after it warms up. Would an automatic starter work to warm the car up faster?

same here i have a 06 base model and going from first to second is a little hard and it does make a little noise. ima change the fluids out and see if it helps for in the morning driving to work.
