Default JWT Clutch & Flywheel Combo 350z

Thinking about installing a new clutch and flywheel in April. I have been thinking about purchasing the JWT combo but am undecided because of the all the forums out there suggesting that lighter flywheels, in general, make noise at idle. I am running a Turbonetics kit on a 2004 350z touring used as a daily driver for the spring and summer months. Any suggestions for a combination and why? Thanks!!!

I personally don't have any experience with the JWT setup. . .this is what I'm running:

My flywheel isn't making any noise at idle, but it does get the occasional chatter when under load at lower rpm's. . .doesn't bother me though

Give Sandy or Sharif @ Forged Performance a pm or call, they'd be more than happy to help you with your woes. . .

For starters, no lightweight flywheels actually make noise. The noise is naturally occurring transmission noise that is normally dampened by the stock dual-mass flywheel. When you switch to a lightweight flywheel you lose that dampening effect.

I have the JWT clutch flywheel and overall I've been pleased but I don't know if I'd recommend it for FI. I like that the flywheel has a replaceable friction surface but I was disappointed that the kit uses an OEM clutch disc (there are side by side pics in my photo album). The pressure plate does have a lot more clamping force and they say that makes it suitable for mild FI applications but I'll probably upgrade to something better when I eventually go FI.

...As for the noise, It's really not that bad. I really only notice it now if I'm in a drive through or slowly moving next to buildings. Above 2k RPM it's not there at all.

Since you are running a power adder I suggest a more aggressive flywheel clutch combination: https://my350z.com/forum/engine-and-...-flywheel.html

i enjoy my jwt set up very much. flywheel isn't that much louder than stock. The only time i've noticed it was loud was when i was at the track and was running my car very hard.

but i would agree to get a bit stronger clutch with your set up even though a lot of F/I people are running the JWT. that's just me though.

Driving a modded car with a turbo, and clutch chatter could be a factor for you. Oh OK.

Yes, the JWT combo chatters below 2k. Yes, you might consider a more aggressive clutch/flywheel combo given you're FI. No, you probably shouldn't care about the chatter given your car is FI and needs a more robust clutch, irrespective of noise. And yes, the chatter will spark interesting conversations with true enthusiasts at gas stations and autocrosses.

The JWT combo doesn't chatter at all

That noise isn't clutch chatter

Clutch chatter is something completely different

Lightweight flywheels don't make any noise at all! The problem is that the stock dual-mass flywheel is designed to absorb the noise made by the transmission. When you switch to a lightweight flywheel you lose that dampening effect and the TRANSMISSION NOISE becomes audible.

Clutch chatter is something completely different. Chatter is when the car shudders as the clutch is being engaged.

This video shows what actual clutch chatter looks like.

Thanks guys!!! I am not so concerned about the noise. I was just trying to get a more in depth feel for the noise before I spend the money. I am still leaning toward the JWT because it is a reliable name and solid combo price.
