so i'm talking to a guy locally that says he has a tranny out of an 07 Z. It's been rolled over and he salvaged this tranny.
On the tranny it says CD0 #5. Is something wrong here?
He said had to come from a newer HR motor because something on the tranny is hydraulic? Does anyone know what he is talking about and can confirm?

Not sure about the cdo #5 (i think that is different prob stamped on the housing) but the hr utilizes a slave cylinder that is on the input shaft instead of being mounted outside of the transmission and using a clutch fork. In short, it sounds like it's from an 07 and should be a 009 but may not be. Is the cdo #5 stamped on the tranny or is it a sticker? If it is stamped then that is not the same as a sticker that says CD009, which is what you would go by.

i'm pretty sure it's stamped/imprinted on the tranny itself. He described, it only says CD #5 and nothing else.
i looked at some tranny pics on the internet (not from him) and found this so maybe that's what he was talking about.

the weird thing is, my tranny says cd #1. The pic shown was from an 06 350z shown here https://my350z.com/forum/drivetrain/...10k-clean.html
is there any other way to tell besides that little white sticker? He gave me a bunch of other numbers but i'm not sure what they are. All i know that there wasn't any 009 in them.

Not sure if the tranny's are interchangeable but regardless I think you have an older one (not CD009). I'm pretty sure the 009s have CD0 #2 stamped on them not CD0 #1 but I'll let someone else chime in.

^^ do you know what number was imprinted on your tranny? Not that little white sticker, like the pic i posted. thanks for the help guys. keep it coming.
I know the 2009's use a different tranny.
I *think* the 2007-2008 (HR) uses a different tranny than 2003-2006.
The best way I know to find out for sure is call your local Nissan parts dept and ask them if the tranny is the same for 2006 and 2007 models.

If this transmission came off the back of an VQ35HR, then it is not the same as the 005 tranny that Nissan was experimenting with on their way to the final 009 design for 03-06 VQ35DE engines. Chances are, the stamping on the bell housing is a different designation than the little sticker Nissan used on the early transmissions to distinguish their revisions.
That being said, I don't know if the DE and HR transmissions are interchangeable. The engine blocks are different, so the bell housing on the tranny's might not share the same size and pattern between them. I know the HR sits about 3/4" lower in the engine bay than the DE (to help compensate for the taller deck height), and this might have necessitated a change in the lower portion of the HR transmission's bell housing, and perhaps the transmission mount also? Hell, are the transmissions even the same length and do they use the exact same drive shaft? I don't know, but maybe a call to your local Nissan parts/service center would help. I think GTM is trying to swap a HR into an earlier Z33 chassis in place of the DE, they might know from looking at the two assemblies if the transmissions are interchangeable.
If they are interchangeable, then some plumbing work will need to be done since the slave cylinder is mounted inside the housing on the HR transmission.
Will (hopes they are interchangeable, and if so, would like to find a used one of his own)
edit: are the clutches compatible between the DE and HR engines? Another thing worth checking out.
