Unhappy Auto trans is making awful grinding noises.. oh no.

I have an 06 350Z with about 29000 miles on it. The transmission (I think) is making a grinding noise and has been for about 3 weeks. Its onset doesn't coincide with anything happening to the vehicle.

Here's a recording of the noise: It happens right at 5 seconds. You may have to turn up the volume.

If I shift early it will still do it in second gear. The main determiner of when it does it and how severe it grinds is engine temperature. Sometimes if grinds badly enough that the vehicle briefly decelerates.

Thank god it's still under warranty. I would just take it to the dealer, but they've never been a help to me so I'd like to get an idea of what it is before approaching them (or anyone else).

Anyone have a guess as to what this is?

How long has yours done it? Has it become any worse with time?

Someone posted on youtube that it was the y-pipe flex tube and i accidentally deleted it.

How would that cause the car to lurch sometimes?
