Default Antifreeze/Coolant Confusion

So there I was buying a new Skunk 2 plenum spacer and reading the installation instructions. It starts by telling me to disconnect the battery (normal ) then draining the coolant (insert confusion ). No where have I found an answer to what type coolant to re-use once I discard the old stuff. All answers keep saying use Nissan ONLY stuff. Surely, I know some of you serious mechanics out there can help this novice installer out. Can I use an off the shelf type antifreeze/coolant in place of the Nissan Only Stuff? Cheers!

Prestone 50/50 is great.

You don't HAVE to drain the coolant. You can unbolt the plenum and have it sit up enough to allow you to install gaskets and a spacer.

From the FSM:

ANTI-FREEZE COOLANT MIXTURE RATIO
The engine cooling system is filled at the factory with a high-quality,
year-round, anti-freeze coolant solution. The anti-freeze solution
contains rust and corrosion inhibitors. Therefore, additional cooling
system additives are not necessary.
CAUTION:
When adding or replacing coolant, be sure to use only Genuine
NISSAN Long Life Antifreeze/ Coolant or equivalent with the
proper mixture ratio of 50% anti-freeze and 50% demineralized
water/distilled water.
Other types of coolant solutions may damage your cooling system.
The simple answer is to use a "green" fluid like Prestone. That would be compatible with the OEM fluid.

That's cool that you don't need to drain coolant. And judging by your reply, I'm guessing your running it in your "Z"?

Any coolant suitable for a aluminium engine is suitable for the 350Z.

Well, I installed the Skunk2 Plenum spacer and as the forum stated, didn't have to drain a drop of coolant. I will be changing it out anyway because I am just over 50K miles and I feel it warrants it. Thanks for all the info. Much luv! BTW the difference is noticable in the midrange on the spacer. Looking forward to the next mods. Man, this stuff is addicting!
