Default **Clutch Pedal Issue**

Well i'm about to hit 60k miles on my '05, and have recently noticed the clutch slipping quite a bit, so obviously it's time to change the thing. I'll be going with something along the lines of the JWT clutch & Lightweight Flywheel Combo, because my Z is a DD. (Recommendations for any other good combos are also welcome)

The problem I am facing is as follows: For quite some time, my clutch pedal has always felt pretty odd, it seems pretty heavy and disengages & engages only about less than 1 inch before my foot is off of the clutch pedal, and also feels like it has ZERO free play before it moves... Everyone who drives it tells me they think somethings wrong and I just can't figure out what it is. Anyone else experience this?

My question is, do you think that the problem with the pedal is only happening due to the fact that the clutch is just about finished, or is something else (such as the slave or master cylinder) causing these issues?
or Do I just have to wait and see if the pedal feel changes after installing a new clutch/flywheel?

I'm pretty stumped here, as I don't have a huge amount of mechanical experience at the moment, so any help is appreciated!

Thanks!!

1 inch before you depress it? Thats pretty low for a Z. Out of the Zs ive driven the engage point is pretty far up.

Ohh ok sorry I misunderstood you. I think its normal for Zs engagement points to be pretty high. I had to drive my cousins burnt clutch G35 to forged and it almost feels the same as your describing. I think you just have a worn clutch. My Z has around 61k miles but its not worn yet so I cant help you there. Good luck.

Thanks for the input.

Anyone know if the problem should be resolved by replacing the clutch and flywheel?

IIRC, it has been reported by some that the engagement point have been shifted after a clutch replacement. I would PM Sharif or Adam for their opinion. G/L.

The JWT clutch isn't bad, but I recommend you going another route on the flywheel.
Go with anything other than JWT with the flywheel, the extreme rattle is just overkill.
Almost all of the other aftermarket flywheels do not have excessive rattle.

As far as your clutch point, you should ask Ryan if he ever put in a clutch spacer, that's the only thing I could think of, or go take it to a trustworthy mechanic to get it diagnosed.

Any recommendations on flywheels?

Ryan didn't touch the clutch, all I can remember is that we did change the engagement point once, but we tried to do it closer to the floor... It worked for a while but kept moving back up.
I just noticed today that it feels semi-normal when the car isn't warmed up, but once it warms up it gets really stiff!
I'll definitely have them check it when I get the new clutch.
Thanks

If its slipping , the clutch is bad . Its that simple, and yes the JWT flywheel is just fine on the street. If you don't want any extra noise , ket the flywheel stock .

I already addressed that issue, but my question and problem is stated above.
I just wanted to know if the problem would resolve itself after a new clutch/flywheel.
Thanks

You probably won't know what it is until someone that knows what their actually doing gets down there. As far as flywheel, I heard great things for the Nismo and Exedy flywheels. G/L

Thanks.

I'll def. have it looked at when I get the clutch/flywheel replaced!

well i bought a new 350z and when after about a month of driving it the clutch pedal started to clunk and feel like it was getting cought on something so i looked at the actually pedal when i got home and the bolts that hold the pedal to the firewall were loose tightend them up and it feels like i have a new clutch now.
just throwing that out there.

I'm having this problem - 2006 with 47K miles - happens after hard driving or on hot/humid days. Has anyone discovered what the source is? The thread suggests about 5 things. Coincidentally my car wouldn't do it at the dealership today for the tech - first day under 80 and not humid of course.

You should probably post your question up in that thread...
