Default DIY Engine Oil

Hi guys, I remember there used to be a thread on here for DIY oil change, but I can't seem to find it.

Anyways, I've read another tutorial and it says to buy a new drain plug. Now, I want to make sure... We use a new drain plug every time we change our oils, but keep the drain bolt correct?

Also, is the oil filter removable by hand without having to use the oil filter wrench?

I'd buy a oil filter wrench. Nothing like being under the car and having to drive a screw driver through the filter cuz its stuck. Costs < $5, worth every penny when you need it.

+1. Like stated above, the crush washer is debatable. I've never replaced mine. It's been 6 years.

best $20 I ever spent on mod.

Fumoto Quick oil change valve. No mess and no worry about changing the washer every time.

Oil Change DIY
1. Remove undertray (phillips screwdriver)
2. Remove oil cap
3. Drain oil/drain plug (wrench/metric)
4. Replace oil filter w/ new one
5. Replace drain plug
6. Pour 5.1 qts of oil in the fill hole (where you took the cap off)
7. Replace Oil cap
8. Start, check for leaks
9. Replace undertray

Done

I don't even take off the undertray. I just wipe up the small mess I make with the change, never seemed worth it to take off the tray (and you think the dealership takes the tray off??)

Also, why 5.1? The owners manual says 5 with a filter change (03)

I used to not take off the undertray until I did take it off. Makes it much cleaner and easier, plus I can inspect my belts at the same time.

just checked the manual, yup, 5 with filter change. Dunno where I got the .1

I just use a large channel lock wrench to get the filter off. A medium size wrench is all you need to get around that dinky filter.

VERY 1st STEP: Elevate the Z onto jackstands, THEN follow steps 1 thru' 9, above! The use of chocks is HIGHLY recommended, if doing it on a slight incline, such as a driveway (my case).
