Default Performance on Stock Revup

I have had my car for about more than 1.5years now. When i first test drove the car i remember it was response and fast. However i soon later found out that I had oil consumption so I had the motor replaced. I dont push the car a lot only every so often. I usually keep forgetting about it but now it has been bothering me. It seems that the only time when i can really feel a good response and increase in pwoer is right after I put gas in the car. Other than this the car seems a little slower. I just dont feel the same response as i did before as if there is a lag. Is there anything i can do to try and test it out? I am getting ready to go F/I and want to make sure my engine is good before i do anything that could haunt me later. The only engine mod i have is JWT popcharger

I feel that way too - it seems like my car struggles to start up too except for when I'm on a hill or just gassed up the car - weird

Dyno it to make sure it makes power within an acceptable range and have a leak down test done.

I think revups are around the 240-250rwhp stock. There's a recently started thread regarding it somewhere...

+1

The leakdown/compression test will let you know for sure...

BTW, I have a revup too...I was lucky getting a good non oil consuming engine from the start, and the engine is holding up so far after more than a year of FI...

Clean your MAF , you probably got a little oil on it from the popcharger.

^^ do you eman clean the filter on the popcharger?

About the dyno anyone know a good dyno in socal that doesnt cost too much. financially i am not all the way there for the kite. i am about 2/3 there and last time i checked, Leakdown and oil test was 150. Isnt that something the dealer should test?

It might just be me when I crank it - I drove my dad's G the other day and it did the same thing - nvm on my comment. But yeah I'm one of the lucky ones with a non oil consuming engine too.

subscribing to this thread as my 06' has the same symptoms. seems that I have no more torque...and i'm decently modded.

i can mash the pedal and there's a hesitation reminiscent of turbo lag.

Google the " MAF" part , and yes i would probably clean the filter while i'm at it.

So what happens if our car is not producing the amount of power it should be making, does nissan switch out the motor?

I wish - they'll probably find a way to say it's our fault so we get stuck with a huge bill - that's how stealerships roll

I have done nothign extreme with my engine yet, only a popcharger whcih can be easily put back to stock. Also a true dual exhaust which could only enahnce performance. Other than that just suspension and brakes. I hardly believe that they can use that as an excuse to go with my engine. "Because your car is lowered, it is causing your engine to perform slower" That would jsut be stupid.

I needed some bolts for my car because the previous shop over drilled it and so when i asked them to change it or rethread it they blamed it on the car being low. As a result of car being low it caused bolts to strip out.

thats such bullsht

I'm just going by what they did to me on my last car - I had a Scion tC and put a TRD CAI on it and the dealer told me I voided my warranty - I was like wtf this is a toyota part....I figured Nissan would do the same because dealers always try to wiggle out of giving you any type of free service.

The popcharger and exhaust will cause you to lose power in the bottom end. You should get a tune if you don't have one already. You would prob gain a little through the mid and top end power, but you'll still feel the lag down low. Take your mods off and see if you recover anything.

even with a true dual? I thought the only way you lose power for that is if you got a exhaust that was meant for turbo cars so like the evo tt.

I can personally say when i had my nismo exhaust with test pipes i could feel less power low but my mid and high range would accelerate reallly well.

does anyone have any advice other than dyno?

Today after getting gas, the car responded really well. It felt like how used to feel, other than that it feels slow on other days i dont get that push back....

It's really weird that you guys mention the getting gas thing - I had noticed it before, but thought I was just being crazy. In fact, this is the first time I've ever seen it mentioned. I can't imagine there's an aspect of the RevUp that makes that occur.

My only guess regarding that is the fact that gasoline slowly loses its power over time through evaporation and what not - I'm not sure of the exact physics involved, but it's along those lines. That's why it's said that you shouldn't have gasoline 3-weeks or older in your tank - it just loses its energy. So if you want a suggestion along those lines, only fill up your gas tank to a little more than you'll use in 3 weeks.

As far as the lag goes, I've picked up a bit of lag in the throttle response, but nothing severe. My big thing is that the tach will stay up for a little while after I let go of the throttle when it's higher than 3K. My brother, who owns an 03 G35c has been completely perplexed by that. I've just adjusted. With all my mods and worn tires, I broke loose gassing it from 35mph in 2nd, so the power/torque is certainly there.
