Default Question about the ECU

Was just reading on another thread that the ECU is programmable, is this true ? Does that mean that a device to alter the standard ECU will soon be available to tune the ECU when you make mods to the car.

My motorcycle ECU was programmable, so when I replace the exhaust system on it I used to get huge backfires and the occasional flame from the exhaust on quick decceleration impressive to see but not good for the engine. But a couple of hours at a bike shop using a Yosh box we had the ECU retuned and no more backfires/flames. Didn't have to buy anything, just pay for the time in tuning the bike. Would be nice if this was the same for the Z.

This is offered for the Z as well - lots of comanies in Japan offer preprogrammed ecu's for averity of mods (Impul hassemi, Mine's, etc.). You also might want to look up Techtom Japan, as they are one of the most prevelant tuners fo ecu's in Japan.
